Graduation

Commencement for the Jay County High School will be held on Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m., in the JCHS gymnasium. Doors to the gym will open from 1 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. After 1:50 p.m., entrance to the gymnasium will be through the commons and the south doors of the gym only.

All seats are “first come, first serve” and the graduation stage will again be placed on the north end of the gym, with seniors seated facing the stage. This allows for more lower level and upper level bleacher seating. If special seating is required, contact Julie Carlin, senior sponsor, at JCHS at (260) 726-9306.

Fort Recovery High School’s graduation will be held this Sunday at 2 p.m. (Ohio time) and commencement at South Adams High School will be June 1, starting at 2 p.m.

Elected

The executive director of the Indiana Republican Party has been elected to the legislative seat that was held by Rep. Roland Stine before his death last month, The Associated Press reported.

Luke Messer, 34, of Shelbyville, received a majority in the first vote during a caucus Wednesday of Republican precinct officials from House District 57, which covers most of Shelby County and part of Bartholomew County.

Stine was killed April 24 when his car was hit by an alleged drunken driver east of Franklin. Stine was returning to his Shelbyville home from a session of the General Assembly in Indianapolis.

Stine was elected last November to a two-year term. Messer, a former aide to U.S. Rep. Dan Burton, will complete the term while continuing in his state party position.
