ONE INJURED

A Portland teenager was injured Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Meridian and Lafayette streets.

Tony McCowan, 15, 730 S. Meridian St., Portland, was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service after suffering an abrasion to the head during the accident. His injury was categorized as non-incapacitating.

According to a report by Portland police, Kent A. Williamson, 17, 9518 West 300 South, Dunkirk, was northbound on Meridian Street making a left-hand turn onto Lafayette Street under a yellow light.

Alan E. Bailey, 47, 1072 E. Ind. 26, Portland, was southbound on Meridian Street and collided with the side of Williamson’s 1989 Ford Tempo as both cars were in the intersection during a yellow light.

Williamson’s vehicle then collided with a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer, driven by Cynthia A. Whitenack, 43, 1338 West 100 North, Portland. Whitenack was stopped facing east on Lafayette Street waiting for the light to change.

McCowan was a passenger in Williamson’s vehicle.

Williamson’s vehicle was registered to Jed and Dorothy Williamson of the same address. Bailey was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger.

Damage to all three vehicles was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.

COUNTY ACCIDENTS

A vehicle driven by a rural Portland man was damaged by a tree branch hanging over the road Wednesday at 4:11 p.m. in Noble Township.

Joe R. Smith, 54, 5693 East Ind. 26, told Jay County police he was westbound on Division Road, just east of county road 500 East, when his vehicle struck with a tree branch that was hanging over the road at 5118 East Division Road.

Damage to the 2003 Mazda pickup was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

CITY ACCIDENTS

Vehicles driven by a Portland woman and a Alvada, Ohio, man collided Wednesday at 7:31 p.m. in the parking lot of Hoosier Inn.

John J. Vaughn, 8716 County Road 23, Alvada, told Portland police he was backing out of his parking spot at the Hoosier Inn, 1620 N. Meridian St., when his 1986 Ford F-250 collided with another vehicle. Misty R. Pace, 38, 926 W. Race St., said she was pulling into the parking lot when Vaughn’s pick-up backed into her 1996 Oldsmobile.

Damage to both vehicles was estimated between $750-$1,000.

Vehicles driven by Portland residents collided Wednesday at 4:41 p.m. at the intersection of Seventh and Wayne streets.

Pamela S. Waters, 36, 3641 Como Road, told police she was southbound on Wayne Street when she collided with another vehicle driven by Bettina F. Geesaman, 79, 1696 Blaine Pike, who was traveling west on Seventh Street. Waters was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Blazer and Geesaman was driving a 1979 Mercedes.

Damage to both vehicles was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.[[In-content Ad]]
