Available

Yearbooks for 2009 graduates of Jay County High School will be available on Friday at 8 a.m. at JCHS. Current students may pick-up the books for graduates after school with a note of permission. Also current students may pick up their yearbooks during lunch times on Friday. Extra copies will be available on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 8 a.m. for $55.

Field Day

A Beekeepers Field Day will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jay County Honey Farm, 4682 West 350 South, Portland. Carl Funk and others will demonstrate to visitors how to take care of bees and process honey. Inspections will also be taking place by the State Health Inspector of Indiana.

SUV rolls

A vehicle driven by a Pennville man went off the road and rolled in Jackson Township Wednesday at 10:19 a.m.

David C. Kendrick, 69, 250 E. Main St., told Jay County police that he was driving east on Ind. 18, just west of county road 50 West, and the 1997 Jeep went off the south side of the road. It then went into a ditch, into a bean field and rolled onto the passenger's side.

Combined damage to the Jeep, registered to Melvin and Hazel Crouse, Pennville, and the field, owned by Dick Houser, Bryant, was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.

Fort board meets

The Fort Recovery School Board approved supplemental contacts for middle school yearbook adviser Marcia Weigel, middle school student council adviser Lucy Staugler, and SADD adviser Sara Bruns on Tuesday.

The board also accepted the resignation of Helen Aisenbrey as a cafeteria cook and Marge Dilworth as SADD adviser.

Tire punctured

A rural Portland man told police that someone punctured a tire on his 2002 Chevrolet Venture van.

Brad Ballard, 3286 East Ind. 26, told Jay County police that the rear passenger tire was punctured with a screwdriver.

Ballard said that when he took the tire to get it repaired, a portion of a screwdriver was found inside the tire. The vandalism occurred between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Home entered

Someone broke into a Portland woman's home on Wednesday and stole an unknown amount of change.

Kim Gibson, 631 E. North St., told Portland police that the burglary occurred between 3:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m.

Entry was gained by cutting the screen on the front window.[[In-content Ad]]
