ALBANY - And they thought their match against Yorktown was close.
The Jay County High School girls eked out a one-stroke win over the Tigers Tuesday. Thursday night, they needed a fifth-score tiebreaker to earn the win over the Delta Eagles after the top four ended in a tie at 199.
Freshman Cara Garringer did enough in the No. 5 spot to lift the Patriots as her 57 far outdistanced the 70 posted by Delta's Holly Kenedy. It was their seventh straight victory, improving them to 9-1 on the season.
Trisha Champ ended a streak of three consecutive rounds in the 30s, but still led Jay County with a 43. Lindsay Snyder of the Eagles took medalist honors with a 41.
Ivy Simons got hot for a stretch in her round with back-to-back pars on holes five and six. She followed with consecutive bogies on Nos. 7 and 8 as she finished with a 50. Jennifer Hunt followed with a 52, and Alex Bunch added a 54 to forge the tie.
Rachel Osterholt snapped her career-best score by three strokes with a 48, leading the JCHS junior varsity to a score of 215.
