Tigers edge Patriot netters (05/08/08)

Local roundup

A doubles sweep was not enough for the Jay County High School girls tennis team Wednesday as it lost all three singles matches in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the visiting Bluffton Tigers.

Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman split their first six games at No. 2 doubles with Jessica Meitzler and Lauren Dunwiddie, but then won eight in a row to take the first set and grab control of the second. They went on to a 6-3, 6-2 victory.

The No. 1 doubles pair of Cindy Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel trailed early in both sets. They rallied to win four of the final five games in the first and six of seven in the second for a 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Hannah McAbee came close to forcing a third set at No. 3 singles only to drop six of the last seven games in a 6-4, 7-5 loss to Jenny Bennett. In other singles matches for the Patriots No. 1 Megan Adams lost 6-1, 6-1 to Cristina Gratton and No. 2 Betsy Knittle suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Kara Fiechter.

Kayla Martin rolled to an 8-0 victory to lead the JCHS junior varsity team to a 3-2 win over the Tigers.
