Tobe powers offense as Faller gets first victory (04/14/05)

A freshman powered the Tribe offense Tuesday while a senior picked up his first career win.
Clint Tobe hit his first career home run and Greg Faller won in his first career start as the Fort Recovery baseball team topped the Upper Scioto Valley Rams 8-5.
The Indians are now 7-4, one victory away from tying last season’s win total.
Tobe finished a perfect 4-for-4 for the Tribe, which scored in every inning except the fifth. He had a double to go along with his homer and finished with three RBIs and three runs.
Faller gave up just two runs until the top of the seventh inning. He pitched 61/3 innings in all, giving up five runs on eight hits. He struck out seven and walked three.
Keith Bruns recorded the final two outs for the save.
Faller also singled twice and scored twice for the Indians. Todd Post scored a pair of runs, and Chris Galdeen and Steve Trobridge each had two hits.
Westgerdes wins two
SPENCERVILLE — Kristi Westgerdes stayed perfect in the sprints for the season, but the Fort Recovery track teams each finished third at a three-team meet at Spencerville Tuesday. The girls team scored 43 points behind the host Bearcats’ 76 and Crestview’s 54. The boys team had 15 points with Crestview first (82.5) and Spencerville second (72.5).
Westgerdes won the 100- and 200-meter dashes to stay undefeated in those events on the season. The senior finished the 100 in 13.3 seconds and took the 200 in 28.2.
Mindy Vogel added a victory in the 400 dash in 1-minute, 6.3 seconds. Stefanie Schuessler finished first in the high jump at four feet, 10- inches.
The lone win for the boys team came in the pole vault as Stan Roessner won at a height of 10 feet.
JV baseball wins
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team overcame a six-run second inning by the Upper Scioto Valley Rams for a 10-6 victory Tuesday.
The Indians (2-4) were down 6-4, but scored five times in the fifth inning and once in the fifth and won despite being out-hit 10-5. They drew six walks in the contest.
Eric Weitzel knocked a double and finished with two runs and two RBIs. Scott Hein scored three times, Troy Metzger scored twice and Kevin Schoenherr and Curt Heitkamp each notched a pair of RBIs.
