BERNE and HUNTINGTON - The Patriots and Starfires have their match-ups set.

In high school boys basketball sectional action Tuesday evening, the Class 4A No. 9 Marion Giants defeated Fort Wayne North Side 94-86 at Huntington North and the Woodlan Warriors topped Adams Central 62-51 at South Adams. Those winners advance to play Jay County and South Adams in semifinal action Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Patriots (14-6) and Marion (18-3) will reprise their sectional championship meeting from a year ago. The Giants won that game 49-39 and went on to finish as the state runners-up.

Friday's other semifinal game in the Class 4A tournament at Huntington North will pit the host Vikings (7-13) against Homestead (13-8) at 6 p.m.

The Starfires (8-12) will host Woodlan (2-18) in Class 2A action in the second meeting between the teams this season. SAHS won the first battle at home 73-60 on Feb. 7.

The 6 p.m. semifinal game at South Adams will be a showdown between two of the best teams in the state - No. 2 Bishop Luers (17-4) and No. 3 Bluffton (21-2).

Semifinal winners will advance to the championship games Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Fort to play Cards

COLDWATER, Ohio - Fort Recovery High School's boys basketball team will get a second chance.

The New Bremen Cardinals won their opening-round game in the Division IV sectional tournament at Coldwater Tuesday, defeating the Minster Wildcats 62-45. Their victory sets up a rematch with Fort Recovery in the sectional championship game Friday night at 6:15 p.m.

The Indians (13-7) and New Bremen (14-7) met in the regular-season finale with the Cardinals holding on for a two-point victory. However the Tribe played without junior Greg Kahlig, who leads the team in scoring at 23.9 points per game and is expected to be on the court Friday with the sectional title on the line.

The winner will advance to the district tournament at Wapakoneta.

JC 4th wins tourney

The Jay County fourth grade AAU boys basketball team won its division in the BoomerBurgh shootout hosted this weekend by Jay Community Center.

Other champions were East Central Red in the fifth and sixth grade divisions and the Indiana Hurricanes in the seventh and eighth grade divisions.

Jay County finished as the runner-up in the eighth grade tournament, falling to the Indiana Hurricanes in overtime.

Members of the winning fourth grade team from Jay County are Zach Chaney, Monte Crosbie, Justin Crouch, Dakota Grove, Jay Houck, Kyler Hudson, Allen Huey, Brandt Pearson, Ian Reynolds, Jason Schlosser and Bryan Stancliffe.
