Tribe drops to third (01/18/07)

Local roundup

Fort Recovery was voted No. 1, then suffered its first loss a day later. But the defeat didn't drop the Indians far.

The Tribe fell 42-38 Thursday to New Knoxville and fell two spots to third in The Associated Press Division IV girls basketball poll released Wednesday.

Fort Recovery, 11-1 at the time of the voting, earned 152 poll points, 60 behind No. 2 Hopewell-Loudon (12-0). Berlin Hiland (8-3) and Kirtland (9-0) tied for fourth with 140 points while Columbus Africentric (11-1) moved up to the No. 1 position with 229.

The Indians are now 12-2, having since lost to Green, a Division I school from near Akron, at the Classic in the Country hosted by Berlin Hiland.

Following its win over the Tribe, New Knoxville narrowly missed climbing into the top 10. It finished 11th in the voting, just two points behind No. 10 East Canton.

Fort Recovery's boys team, which was 11th in the voting in the first Division IV poll of the year last week, dropped out of the poll completely this week after Friday's loss to No. 3 New Knoxville.

The Indian girls will try to get back on track tonight when they host St. Henry. They will also be at home Saturday against Arcanum.

A visit to St. Henry awaits the boys team Friday, and they will return home Saturday to play Ansonia.

Jay freshmen fall

She also came up with four steals and three rebounds.

Kayla Davis and Shelby Gierhart scored six points apiece. Brittany Muhlenkamp had five rebounds, and Davis added four steals.
