CELINA, Ohio — Four rounds in the 40s were enough to earn the Indians a league victory.
The Fort Recovery High School boys golf team picked up just its second Midwest Athletic Conference win of the year Monday as it edged the Coldwater Cavaliers 186-188 at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Coldwater had the two best scores of the evening as Mitch Diller earned medalist honors with a 42 and Tyler Kanney added a 44. But the Indians (6-13, 2-5 MAC) were steadier throughout the lineup to pick up the victory.
Elijah Kahlig and Derek Backs each had two pars in their rounds to finish with matching scores of 45. Stewy Alig opened with a birdie on the 452-yard, par-4 first hole on the way to a 47, and Kent Retz completed the team score with a 49.
Josh Pohl shot 51, and Chase Bruns finished with a 52.
Star netters cruise
FORT WAYNE — South Adams’ boys tennis team cruised to a win Monday, dominated the host Wayne Generals 5-0.
Landon Lehman led the Starfires to their victory with a shutout of Brandon Barker at No. 2 singles. Dylan Pierce and Blake Baumer just missed a shutout in the No. 2 doubles match as they defeated Mason Waggoner and Arriston King 6-1, 6-0.
Cole Myers beat Trey Lohman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Jared Rife and Dexter Miller defeated Joevonn Timberlake and Davon Crutchfield 6-0, 6-2.
Brayden Myers completed the sweep as he edged Jescus Mitchel. Myers won the first set 6-4, dropped the second 5-7 (15-17) and then won a super tiebreaker 10-5.
SA boys soccer loses
AUBURN — The South Adams boys soccer team could not keep up with the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers on Saturday in a 10-0 defeat.
Lakewood Park Christian (7-3) scored all but one of its goals in the opening half, with Hunter Yoder and Zac Crosby tallying two apiece. Brooks Gerke had one goal and two assists, Max Troyer finished with one goal and one assist and Bradey Gerke notched two assists.
Lathan Luginbill took the only shot on goal in the game for the Starfires (2-8-1). Tyler Sprunger made 18 saves, and Jon Myers finished with three saves.[[In-content Ad]]
