Tribe fourth at Parkway

ROCKFORD — The Fort Recovery High School girls track team had trouble scoring points last season.
The Indians scored 52.5 points Tuesday at Parkway, but placed fourth by a narrow margin.
The host Panthers were first with 65.5 points to win the quad. Lima Central Catholic was second with 61, and Lima Perry edged the Indians for third with 53 points.
Fort Recovery’s boys squad also finished fourth with 17 points.
Sierra Pugh was second and third respectively in the 200- and 100-meter dash, and Elle Sutter placed second in the 1,600 run and 3,200 run.
Alexis Hobbs earned third-place finish in the 300 hurdles for the Indians, and Jocelyn Kaiser was third in the shot put
Bre Jutte, Rachel Pugh, Kaiser and Sierra Pugh teamed up to win both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Grace Gehle and Angela Heitkamp teamed up with Paige Hemmert and Hobbs to place second in the 4x400 relay, and joined Rachel Kaup and Sutter for second in the 4x800 relay.
For the Fort boys, Josh Pohl (800 run) and Travis Sutter (3,200) both placed third in their respective events.

Indians drop opener
FORT RECOVERY — Runs were hard to come by for the Indians.
Russia scored almost at will.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team dropped its season opener Tuesday to Russia, 15-3 in five innings.
Russia scored two or more runs in four of the five innings, exploding for seven in the second as it led 10-0 before Fort Recovery (0-1) managed to get on the board.
The Indians broke the shutout with two runs in the third and one more in the fourth, but the Raiders scored two in the bottom of the fifth to complete the five-inning victory.
Audra Metzger recorded the only hit for the Tribe. Chelsea Timmerman, Kasey Vogel and Whitney Will all reached base by drawing walks. Timmerman, Will and Metzger scored the only Fort Recovery runs.
Ashley Homan took the loss in the circle.

Eagle archers qualify
INDIANAPOLIS — The Eagles are going to nationals.
The West Jay Middle School archery team scored 2,934 points March 22 at the National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament at the Champions Pavilion at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
West Jay was 21st in the middle school division, earning a berth in the national tournament to be held May 9 and 10 in Louisville, Ky.
Catherine Stafford and Conner Benter had identical scores of 256, earning them top-50 finishes for West Jay. Benter was 27th out of 139 competitors in the seventh grade boys division, and Stafford was 46th out of 147 in the seventh grade girls division.
Hunter Harrison (255 – 26th), Joey Littler (252 – 35th) and Alex Davis (249 – 40th) competed in the sixth grade boys division.

Five lead Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — Five Fort Recovery Middle School girls earned individual victories Tuesday as the Indians scored 69 points to win their three-way meet.
Houston was second with 47 points and Arcanum-Butler was third with 22.
On the boys’ side, Fort Recovery was third with 41.5 points. Arcanum-Butler won with 60.5 points and Houston was second with 43.
Alyssa Post (100-meter hurdles), Heather Klenke (400 dash), Hanna Heitkamp (800 run), Maddison Rammel (high jump) and Kiah Wendel (long jump) all finished first in their respective events.
Audrey Guggenbiller, Kelsey Jutte, Post and Wendel teamed up to win the 4x100 relay. Guggenbiller and Post also joined Chloe Will and Rammel to take the top spot in the 4x200 relay.
Taylor Grisez and Elise Gehle joined Klenke and Heitkamp to place first in the 4x400.
For the Tribe boys, Adam Byram (100 dash), Robby LeFevre (long jump) and Andrew Stocker (shot put) all earned wins.
Lukas Pettit, Max Klingshirn, Braden Schoen and Stocker combined to win the 4x100 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
