Tribe freshmen still searching for first victory (01/11/04)

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team dropped to 0-5 Monday with a 41-20 loss to the St. Henry Redskins.

The Tribe was outscored 7-0 in the first quarter. It scored just three points in the first half of the defeat.

Kenton Sudhoff paced Fort Recovery with seven points, and Luke Bihn scored six. Ben Tobe grabbed five rebounds.

South Adams wins pair

GENEVA — Points were at a premium for three quarters. In the fourth, both offenses came alive and the South Adams eighth grade boys basketball team just outdistanced Decatur St. Joseph 26-24.

The Starfire seventh graders also won, 29-22.

The eighth grade game was tied at 14 after three periods. Chris Stutzman scored half of his team-high eight points in the fourth quarter to lead South Adams to the victory.

Zach Wurster added six points, including a fourth-quarter 3-pointer, and Joey Seylor scored three of his five points in the final period.

Nick Teeter had 14 points, and Heath Moser added 11 for the seventh grade team, which won despite a scoreless second quarter. It still led 10-3 at halftime and cruised after the break.

Tribe splits with NK

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team played great defense for three quarters en route to a 35-24 win over the New Knoxville Rangers Monday. The eighth grade squad dropped by a 45-27 final.

The Indian seventh graders (5-2) allowed just three points in each of the first two quarters and four in the third. They were up by 15 at halftime as Josh Wendel led them with 16 points in the victory.

Craig Tobe was next with eight points, and Cody Fiely added five.

Fort Recovery’s eighth grade team got eight points from Toby Metzger, but trailed the entire way. Tyler Jutte had six points, and Curt Schroer added five.

High Rollers win

The Jay County High Rollers bowling teams had a good Saturday, scoring a pair of victories. The boys team rallied from a big deficit for an 11-9 win over Norwell, and the girls team dominated Southern Wells 15-5.

The boys High Rollers managed just one point from Thomas McCowan in its first game, but it ended up being an important one. Jay County was perfect when it needed to be in the second game, scoring a 1,071-835 victory and taking all 10 points to secure the win.

Preston Shoopman rolled a 418 series for the High Rollers, whose second game score was more than 200 pins better than their first (836). McCowan finished with a 406, and Cody Wright had a 405.

The girls team (5-5) dominated the first game 702-649 for an 8-2 lead, and completed the victory by taking seven points in the second game. The second game score was 712-665.

Summer Roush had a team-best total of 331. She was followed by Desi Fuller with a 316 and Jessica Philebaum with a 262.

Jay County’s JV team lost its final match of the season 17-3 to Huntington North to finish with a 3-5 record. John Moore had a high series of 362, and Allan Schlechty added a 354.

Fort tickets

Tickets to Fort Recovery’s boys basketball games Friday at St. Henry and Saturday at Houston will be on sale Thursday.

They will be sold Thursday in the middle school office from 7:45 to 11:15 a.m. and in the high school office from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be no ticket sales Friday.

Advance tickets are $4 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the door will be $5.[[In-content Ad]]
