Tribe misses tourney upset (05/17/06)

Fort Recovery roundup

ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery pushed the top seed as far as it possibly could.

The Indians and the New Bremen Cardinals each had three hits in softball sectional action Tuesday. But the No. 1 seed Cardinals scored the game’s only run in the sixth inning of the oft-postponed championship game to defeat the Tribe 1-0.

The loss denied Fort Recovery a third straight sectional title. New Bremen, ranked in the state top 10 as recently as last week, advances to play St. Henry in the district semifinal round.

Kinsey Wenning suffered the loss in the game, which was postponed six straight days because of the ongoing wet weather. She gave up just three hits and two walks, and the only run against her was unearned. She struck out two batters.

Ciera Rammel had a double for the Indians, who are now 8-15. Lauren Wenning and Jennifer Link added one hit apiece.

Three make first team

The Fort Recovery baseball and softball teams placed three players on the All-Midwest Athletic Conference first teams.

Senior four-year starters Renee Evers and Ciera Rammel earned first-team honors for the softball team. Second baseman Chris Galdeen was named to the baseball first team as the awards were announced last week.

Kevin Schoenherr, the Tribe pitcher who had a 0.00 ERA until the seventh inning of the sectional championship game, was named to the baseball second team.

Earning honorable mention for baseball were Curt Heitkamp, Clint Tobe, Bobby Rammel and Steve Trobridge. Kelsie Will picked up honorable mention in softball.[[In-content Ad]]
