COLUMBUS, Ohio — Another victory lifted the Indians another spot in the state rankings.
The Fort Recovery High School boys basketball team, which defeated Coldwater Friday, moved up one place to sixth in the second Division IV Associated Press poll released today.
The Indians (9-1) finished with 99 poll points, nine more than seventh-ranked Springfield Catholic Central (9-1). They were 44 points behind No. 5 McComb (9-0).
Defending state champion Jefferson Township (9-2), which defeated FRHS in the 2010 regional championship game, kept the No. 1 ranking.
Fort Recovery defeated Coldwater 41-31 Friday, running its Midwest Athletic Conference record to 3-0. Sophomore Wade Gelhaus leads the team at 12 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, and junior Jared Kahlig and freshman Elijah Kahlig also score in double figures at 11.7 and 10.4 respectively.

Brunswicks lead
DE GRAFF, Ohio — Senior sisters Kendra and Holly Brunswick combined for 33 points Saturday as the Fort Recovery girls basketball team clobbered the host Riverside Pirates 61-39.
The Indians, who have won nine straight since a season-opening loss to Memorial (St. Marys), gave up the opening hoop of the game Saturday. But they scored the next 13 points in a row, led by 12 at the end of the first quarter and never allowed the advantage to slip to single digits the rest of the way.
Kendra Brunswick buried three 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Fort Recovery. Holly Brunswcik finished 6-of-9 from the field, scored 16 points and also grabbed seven rebounds.
Olivia Thien notched a game-high eight rebounds, and Nicole Dilworth dished out six assists.
In junior varsity action, Chelsea Pottkotter buried 10 free throws as she scored 18 points to lead Fort Recovery to a 51-21 win over the Pirates.
Melissa Lochtefeld was 6-of-10 from the field and added 15 points. Pottkotter also had 10 rebounds, and Amy Link and Lochtefeld chipped in six apiece.
Morgan Robinson and Gloria Romany each had five points for Riverside.

Tribe freshmen fall
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team struggled in the second quarter Monday in a 41-20 loss to the Minster Wildcats.
Kent Retz finished with eight points and eight rebounds for the Indians (4-4), who went scoreless in the second quarter. Kyle Timmerman added six points.
Retz also had 12 points and four rebounds in the Tribe’s 45-37 victory Saturday over Elida. Timmerman followed with nine points.

WJ finishes 0-2
West Jay Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team dropped both of its games at Saturday’s East Jay Invitational. The Eagles fell 40-23 to Bellmont and 39-27 to St. Joe.
Nate Brackman led WJMS in both games, finishing with 11 points in the opener and 16 in the consolation game. Case Retter had seven points against Bellmont, and Jordy Gunckle totaled four in the loss to St. Joe.[[In-content Ad]]
