The New Knoxville Rangers couldn’t have been too excited with the way the sectional bracket turned out for them.

Fort Recovery and New Knoxville will meet in first-round action at the New Bremen sectional Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. The Tribe (11-5) crushed the Rangers (10-6) on their home floor last week, 50-29.

The other first-round sectional game will also be played Tuesday at about 7:30 p.m. and will pit Spencerville (9-7) against St. Henry (7-8). The winning teams from those games will advance to Saturday’s sectional championship contests against two of the best teams in Division IV.

The Fort Recovery/New Knoxville winner will take on second-seeded Minster (12-3) Saturday, Feb. 19 at 6:15 p.m. The defending state champion Wildcats are ranked seventh in Division IV and defeated the Indians 53-36 earlier this season.

The St. Henry/Spencerville winner gets the task of playing Marion Local (16-0), which is No. 2 in Division IV.

The two sectional champions from New Bremen will advance to the Coldwater district tournament.

FR still winless

Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team had a chance at its first win of the season, but stumbled in the third quarter on the way to a 35-21 loss to ?????? ????????.

The Tribe (0-8) trailed just 11-10 at the half. But, it was outscored by 10 in the third quarter.

Kenton Sudhoff paced the Indians with nine points. Dustan Grieshop scored four points.

JC trio awarded

Three Jay County football players were honored recently for their academic achievements.

Adam Foster, Ben Freeman and David Minnich were named Academic All-State for Region V. The list of honorees was released last week.[[In-content Ad]]
