FORT LORAMIE, Ohio - A group of runners in the 50s gave the Fort Recovery High School girls cross country team a middle-of-the-pack finish Tuesday.

The Indians No. 2 through 5 runners placed between 51st and 58th as the team finished seventh out of 15 teams at the Fort Loramie Invitational. The Tribe boys were 15th out of 16 teams.

Finals scores and individual times were not available.

Tina Roessner led the FRHS girls (28-19) in 18th place. Nicole Heitkamp was 51st, followed by Alexis Sutter (53rd), Abby Huelskamp (57th) and Amber Heitkamp (58th).

Ryan Heitkamp was the only runner in the top 50 for the Indians (6-53) in the boys race as he finished 41st. Caleb Heitkamp was 81st ahead of Mathias Koester (100th), Zach Guggenbiller (105th) and Adam Pohl (108th).

Nathan Fullenkamp and Josh Pohl finished third and fifth respectively to lead the Fort Recovery junior high boys team to third place in a 13-team field.

The girls team placed fourth out of 11 teams with Samantha Tobe sixth and Abby May seventh.

Raiders top SA spikers

BERNE - South Adams High School's volleyball split the opening two games Tuesday night, but fell 25-14, 9-25, 25-14, 25-23 to the visiting Southern Wells Raiders.

Karen Bollenbacher totaled team bests of 12 kills and 15 digs for the Starfires, who are now 0-12. Whitney Ellinger had 10 kills.

Jacie Yoder finished with 21 assists, and Kyla Potts added 14 digs.

South Adams also lost the junior varsity match, 25-11, 25-11.

Gerber wins for WJ

HARTFORD CITY - Miranda Gerber made a successful 2008 debut for the West Jay Middle School cross country team, winning the girls race.

Despite that first-place finish, both Eagle teams fell short against the Blackford Bruins. The girls lost 25-34, and the boys team dropped a 19-40 decision.

Gerber cruised to victory in the girls race, winning in 14-minutes, 7 seconds. The runner-up from Blackford was 22 seconds behind her.

Meagan Price followed Gerber for WJMS in third place at 14:37, and Jenna Starr was seventh at 16:23. Mykala Grayson placed 13th at 22:47, and Lyndsay Buckland took 14th in 22:51.

The top runner for the Eagle boys was Kyle Selvey in third place in 12:32. Keegan Gerber was sixth at 14:16 followed by Jesse Finnerty (ninth - 15:20), Jordan Wood (10th - 15:23) and Kyle Murdock (12th - 16:17).[[In-content Ad]]
