Tribe places seven on all-conference teams (02/25/05)

Seven Fort Recovery basketball players were honored this week by the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Sophomores Holly Stein and Tiff Gaerke led the group as both were selected to the All-MAC first team. They were joined by junior Travis VanSkyock, the lone first-team selection among the Indian boys.

Earning second-team honors for the girls were senior Krystal Rammel and sophomore Vicki Roessner. Seniors Dusty Tobe and Sean Kahlig were second-team selections for the boys.

Undefeated Marion Local swept the two big awards, with junior point guard Maria Moeller as Player of the Year and Treva Fortkamp as Coach of the Year. Delphos St. John got both boys awards with Chad Reynolds taking Player of the Year and Brett Norris as Coach of the Year.

Sectional tickets

Fans will have their last chance to buy advance tickets for the Class 3A Blackford boys basketball sectional Monday.

Tickets will be available in the Jay County High School athletics office Monday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tickets, which give admission to all five sectional games, are $9.

Single-game at the door will be $5.

Jay needs coach

Jay County High School is accepting applications for the position of varsity volleyball coach.

Hoops camp

The Purdue University women’s basketball program will host several camps for players in first through 12th grade this summer.

On the schedule are a parent/daughter camp for grades one through eight on June 4, a resident camp for sixth through 12th graders June 5-8, an offensive skills camp for eighth through 12th graders June 8-10, a high school team camp June 17-19 and one-day shooting camps for junior high and high school June 29-30. There is also a day camp planned for first through sixth graders Aug. 1-5.
