MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Indians trailed for most of the second half. But in the final minutes, they took control.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team claimed the lead on  Chelsea Pottkotter’s 3-pointer with 1:03 remaining and stayed undefeated with a 63-60 win Thursday over the host Marion Local Flyers.
The Tribe (4-0, 1-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) was behind by as many as eight points in the second half, but came back to tie the score twice before Pottkotter’s shot gave it the lead for good. Tori Lennartz hit three 3-pointers and racked up 23 points to lead the FRHS, and Pottkotter added 13. Kelsey Fiely had nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Chelsea Winner led Marion Local (1-2, 0-1 MAC) with 19 points. Megan Kuether scored 12 points.
Kirsten Jutte and Kelsey Evers scored 10 and nine points respectively to lead the Fort Recovery junior varsity team to 43-34 win.

Tankers stay perfect
BERNE — South Adams’ swim teams stayed undefeated Thursday with the girls topping the visiting Fort Wayne North Side Redskins 107-68 and the boys winning 101-65.
Cady Farlow won back-to-back events to lead the Starfire girls, posting first-place times of 26.75 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle at 1 minute, 9.09 seconds, in the 100 butterfly. Michaela Rupp won the 200 individual medley in 2:46.65 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.51, and Sidney Sprunger was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:04.31 and the 100 backstroke in 1:10.02.
Daniel Burson was the lone double winner for the boys team as he took the 100 butterfly in 1:08.93 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.38.
Also picking up victories for SAHS were Ellie Kaverman, David Steffen, Cory Sank, Drew LeFever and Jesse Sutton.

SA wrestlers fall
BERNE — The South Adams wrestling team slipped to 5-2 Thursday as it fell 46-23 to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.
The Starfires came up with just two pins on the evening while giving up 18 points because of three forfeits.
Sawyer Miller (113), who finished fourth in the state last season at 106 pounds, led SAHS as he pinned Elijah Hill in 2 minutes, 28 seconds. Mavrick Morningstar (220) picked up the other pin over Isaiah Bollenbacher in 3:24.
Matt Nussbaum (120) and L.J. Moser (132) each won by 10-0 major decisions over Adam Cook and Josh Schwartz respectively. Mason Morningstar (HWT) added a 10-6 victory over Joe Fuelling.

Tribe boys split
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team evened its record Thursday with a 26-18 victory over the Marion Local Flyers. The seventh graders fell, 30-27.
Micaiah Cox tallied 14 points to power the Indian eighth grade squad (1-1). Jason Roessner followed with nine points.
Cade Wendel scored 15 points for the FRMS seventh grade team, which dropped to 0-2. Evan Post added four points.

FR seventh rolls
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery seventh grade girls basketball team extended its record to 3-0 Thursday as it clobbered the host Marion Local Flyers 42-13. The eighth grade team lost 28-27.
Grace Thien powered the seventh grade Indians as she scored 10 points. Kiah Wendel, Kelsey Jutte and Madi Grover each added six points.
Jocie Kaiser finished with 12 points to pace the eighth graders (1-2). Whitney Will joined her in double figures with 11 points.[[In-content Ad]]
