ST. MARYS, Ohio — The Tribe was one game away.
The Fort Recovery High School volleyball team won the opening game of Saturday’s championship match at the St. Marys Invitational, but dropped the next two as it fell 23-25, 25-18, 25-20 to the Parkway Panthers.
The Indians split their matches in pool play, defeating Allen East 27-25, 25-23 and falling 20-25, 25-22, 25-22 to the host Roughriders.
Cassidy Rammel led the Tribe (2-4) to its victory over Allen East with 12 service points and 10 assists. She also had 11 service points and seven assists against Parkway, and 10 assists and seven service points versus St. Marys.
Kelsey Fiely, Hannah Kaup and Sierra Pugh each had five digs against Allen East. Haley Knapke totaled four kills and Tori Lennartz notched four blocks.
Fiely finished with eight kills, eight service points and seven digs in the loss to St. Marys.

SA drops from poll
INDIANAPOLIS — A second straight loss was enough to knock the South Adams High School football team out of this week’s Class 1A Associated Press poll.
The Starfires, who were 10th last week, picked up just two points in the poll released Monday. They finished tied with Tri-Central for 17th in the Class 1A voting.
South Central is 10th in the poll with 32 points while defending state champion Lafayette Central Catholic (3-0) continues to hold the top spot.

South Adams had the early lead Friday against Bluffton, but failed to score in the second half of a 24-6 loss to the Tigers. The team opened the season with a win over Winchester, but then lost to Bellmont and Bluffton.

Fort golfers 15th
VERSAILLES — The Fort Recovery boys golf team posted a score of 383 to place 15th out of 20 teams at Saturday’s Versailles Invitational.
The Tribe was one stroke ahead of 16th-place Arcanum and five behind 14th-place Tri-Village.
Kent Retz and Elijah Kahlig each finished at 92 to share the top score for the Indians. Chase Bruns also broke 100 with a 97. Bryce McAbee shot 102, and Stewy Alig finished with a 106.

Wenning keys Tribe
WAYNESFIELD, Ohio — Wes Wenning scored twice for the Fort Recovery junior varsity football team in a 21-0 victory Saturday over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers.
Wenning ran for a 5-yard TD in the second quarter and added a 50-yard scoring run in the third. Darien Sheffer also hit Cody Grube with a 15-yard touchdown pass.
Jackson Hobbs converted all three extra-point tries.
