Tribe shuts out Jefferson for second straight win (04/20/05)

FORT RECOVERY — Good pitching, good hitting and good defense came together for the Fort Recovery softball team Tuesday as it trounced the Delphos Jefferson Wildcats 10-0 in six innings.

Eight of the 11 players who stepped to the plate for the Indians got at least one hit as the team racked up 11 total. It scored six times in the second inning en route to the win. And, Tiff Gaerke tossed the shutout as the defense played errorless behind her.

Gaerke gave up just six hits and did not walk a batter as she improved to 2-1. She struck out two.

Sandra Sudhoff paced the offense, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 as the Indians pulled to within a game of .500 at 6-7. One of her hits was a triple, and she also scored once and drove in one run.

Krystal Rammel also had a triple to go along with two RBIs and a run, Gaerke notched a triple and Kristen Schwieterman added two hits. Ciera Rammel stole a base and scored a couple of runs.

Parkway tops JV

ROCKFORD, Ohio — For the second straight night the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team let a tie game slip away in the late innings, this time in a 9-2 loss to the Parkway Panthers.

The contest was tied at 2 after four innings, but Parkway posted three runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to pull away. The Indians were also tied with Minster through four innings Monday before losing 12-0.

Beth May took the loss as she allowed nine runs — two earned — on eight hits in six innings. She also gave up eight walks.

Heather Schmackers went 2-for-2 with a run and a stolen base. Tana Bergman had a run and a stolen base, Sam Staugler notched a triple and Lauren Wenning had a double.

MONDAY’S GAMES

Indians pull even in MAC

MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery softball team evened its Midwest Athletic Conference record Monday with a 7-2 victory over the Minster Wildcats.

The Tribe (5-7, 1-1 MAC) never trailed in the contest, posting three runs in the top of the first inning. Minster scored twice in the bottom of the first, but never got anything else as the Indians added two runs in the second, one in the fifth and one in the seventh for the win.

Brenda Rindler and Renee Evers paced the Tribe offense. Rindler went 2-for-4 with a two RBIs and a run, and Evers had a single, three stolen bases, two runs and an RBI.

Kristen Schwieterman also had three stolen bases, and Sandra Sudhoff notched a pair of hits.

Alyssa Tobe evened her mark at 4-4 with the win, allowing two runs — one earned — on five hits. She struck out seven and walked just one.

JV softball loses late

FORT RECOVERY — A scoreless game after four innings turned ugly in the final three as the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team fell to the Minster Wildcats 12-0.

After playing to a scoreless tie through four innings, Minster found its bats for two runs in the fifth inning, six in the sixth and four in the seventh to pull away. Val Fortkamp and Abby Niekamp had the only two hits for the Indians (4-7, 1-1 MAC).

Beth May took the defeat, allowing six earned runs in six innings. She walked five and struck out three.[[In-content Ad]]
