Tribe softball closes with win

FORT RECOVERY — A rough season ended on a high note.
The Fort Recovery High School team finished its campaign with a 2-1 victory Friday over the Jefferson Wildcats. The victory ended a 17-game losing streak and gave the Indians their second win of the year.
Ashley Homan’s pitching effort was key for the Tribe (2-20) as she tossed a two-hitter. She allowed just one unearned run in the third inning while striking out two and walking one.
Fort Recovery pulled even with a run in the fourth inning, and then scored what proved to be the game-winner in the fifth.
Senior Maleia Fullenkamp led FRHS at the plate with a single, a run and an RBI. Kelsee Ontrop drove in a run, and courtesy runner Emily Alig scored once.
Jackie Fullenkamp and Homan added one hit apiece.
Seven honored
Jacob Muhlenkamp and Jackie Fullenkamp were named to the All-Midwest Athletic Conference baseball and softball first teams respectively, leading a group of seven Fort Recovery athletes who were honored Friday.
Blake Boughman and Jackson Hobbs were named to the baseball second team, with Chad Schroer earning honorable mention. Janelle Schwieterman and Ashley Homan earned honorable mention for the softball team.
Muhlenkamp hit a team-best .459 with 18 RBIs to lead the Fort Recovery offense. Fullenkamp batted .411 for the Tribe softball team with eight doubles and three triples.
Hobbs, a freshman, had a 1.37 ERA with 51 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings. Boughman hit .319 with 18 RBIs and 15 runs.
JV baseball wins
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team held off the Jefferson Wildcats for a 3-2 victory Friday.
The Indians scored once in the third inning and twice in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. Jefferson pulled within one with two runs in the sixth inning, but Nate Lochtefeld struck out one batter in a scoreless seventh to secure the win.
Chase Bruns picked up the victory as he limited Jefferson to two runs on four hits and a walk in six innings.
Lochtefeld also led the Tribe at the plate with a hit, two runs and an RBI. He was also hit by a pitch twice.
Mitch Stammen finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run, and Evan Schoen added a single and an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
