Tribe softball ends long skid (04/17/06)

Fort Recovery roundup

VAN WERT, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team dropped its opening game Saturday, then ended its seven-game losing streak.

The Indians fell 17-1 to the Crestview Knights to start the action, but bounced back to top the Lincolnview Lancers 3-1.

Trailing 1-0 with just two innings to play in the second game, the Tribe pulled even by scoring once in the sixth. It got two more runs in the seventh for the final margin.

Kelsie Will paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Jennifer Link added two hits and an RBI, and Renee Evers had two hits and a run. Val Fortkamp also finished with a pair of hits.

Kinsey Wenning got the win, allowing just an unearned run on five hits and three walks. She struck out four batters in seven innings.

The Indians (4-8) managed just one hit in the loss to Crestview, a single by Val Fortkamp. Will scored the only run.

Beth May took the defeat as she gave up eight runs — six earned — on eight hits and two walks in two innings.

JV baseball clobbers two

LEWISBURG, Ohio — Neither the Tri-County North Panthers nor the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks were even close Saturday.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team slaughtered both teams, defeating Tri-County North 17-4 in the opener and Mississinawa Valley 14-3 in game two.

The Indians (4-3) got off to a hot start with six runs in the opener inning against the Panthers and never looked back. Ross Overman paced the offense with two hits, two runs and two stolen bases. Jordan Hess and Brady Kahlig each added two hits and two runs, and Travis Hart scored four times.

Derek Koester notched a pair of doubles and two runs against the Blackhawks. Overman had three runs and two RBIs, Frank Thien finished with two hits and two runs and Matt Braun also had two hits.

Hess and Braun benefited from the big offense to earn the pitching victories.[[In-content Ad]]
