BOTKINS, Ohio - Fort Recovery's defense did the job.
The Indian softball team ended its losing streak Friday, playing an error-free game for a 5-1 victory over the Botkins Trojans.
Beth May and her defense held Botkins to just one run on three hits. May took the win as she struck out four and walked six.
Ashley Grube powered the Tribe offense in the team's second victory of the year, ripping a double and a single. She drove in three runs.
Sandra Sudhoff added a single a stolen base, a run and an RBI, and Heather Schmackers also had one hit, one run and one RBI.
Wave tops FR baseball
GREENVILLE, Ohio - The Fort Recovery baseball team dropped its first non-conference game of the year Friday, falling 5-3 to the Greenville Green Wave.
Greenville got five runs - three earned - off of four hits against Toby Metzger, who was hurt by three Indian errors. He struck out three before turning the ball over to Clint Tobe.
Tobe held the Green Wave scoreless, but Fort Recovery didn't put any runs on the board in the final three innings of the loss.
Kevin Schoenherr, Tony Diller and Frank Thien each had two hits for the Tribe, which dropped to 6-4 after a 4-0 start. Schoenherr knocked a pair of doubles and scored three runs, and Diller doubled and scored twice.
Fort JV still winless
FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team slipped to 0-7 on the year with a 7-0 loss Friday to Greenville.
Brady Kahlig suffered the defeat, giving up seven runs - five earned - on 10 hits. He struck out three and walked one.
Fort Recovery finished with four hits, including doubles by Craig Tobe and Cody Fiely.
Cheerleaders chosen
Jay County held its cheerleading tryouts Friday for the 2007-08 school year.
On the varsity squad will be seniors Megan Adams, Amanda Johnson, Erika Hunt and Amanda Pinkerton, juniors Jessica Beaty, Dannie Grant, Stephy Morgan and Gabi Stout and sophomores Kyla Baldwin, Kari Hemmelgarn, Kami Hicks, Michelle Landfair and Lexie Rowles.
The junior varsity squad will be sophomores Rachel McKinley, Hannah Redwine and Kristen Selvey and freshmen Kristen Ainsworth, Melynda Brackman, Ashley Caupp, Erin Hunt, Kyli Kelso, Jordan McMillan and Megan Taylor.[[In-content Ad]]
