Tribe still searching for first win

MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball held a slight advantage over Minster after the first quarter Thursday.
But then the Wildcats took matters into their own hands, beating the Indians 54-28.
The ’Cats outscored the Indians 21-6 in the second period. Fort Recovery shot just 13.6 percent in the second half and was held to 11 points after halftime in dropping its sixth straight Midwest Athletic Conference loss.
Kendra Siefring and Tori Lennartz each scored eight points to lead the Indians, who fell to 6-8 on the season and 0-6 in the MAC. Siefring also had a team-high seven rebounds, and Caley Schoenherr grabbed five.
Jocelyn Kaiser scored five points, and Kara Jutte chipped in four.
Kayla Richard scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats and Claire Fischer had 11.
The Fort Recovery junior varsity team fell to Minster 45-23. Kirsten Jutte scored 10 points as the only player to score in double digits for the Indians, who were held to five points or fewer in each of the first three quarters.

Eagles edge Starfires
CHURUBUSCO — The South Adams girls basketball team held a one-point advantage after the first three quarters, but could not match Churubusco in the final period as the Starfires fell to the Eagles 54-51.
It is the second straight loss for the Stars, who played their first game since Jan. 14.
Dzejna Ahmetovic scored 14 points to lead the Stars, who fell to 11-5 on the season and are 2-3 in Allen County Athletic Conference play. The senior was 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Fellow senior Alyssa Bluhm scored 12 points, and sophomore Sydney Willis chipped in 10 points as three Starfires hit double figures.
Sharon Balsiger added eight points.

Burson, Steffen lead Stars
BERNE — David Burson and David Steffen both won their respective individual events in helping the South Adams boys swim team to a 99-75 win Thursday over DeKalb.

The Starfire girls lost to the Barons 95-64.
Burson placed first in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, and Steffen earned victories in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle.
Drew Lefever took first in the 100 butterfly, Zach Teeple won the 100 backstroke and Daniel Steffen earned a victory in the 100 breaststroke.
Chris Inniger joined Lefever, Burson and David Steffen for a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
Xavier Rupp was uncontested in diving.
Cady Farlow and Riley Thompson were both dual event winners for the South Adams girls. Thompson, a freshman, won the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle. Farlow, a junior, placed first in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.
Ellie Kaverman also earned a victory for the Stars in the 100 freestyle.
Victoria Richardson teamed up with Farlow, Thompson and Kaverman for a victory in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Tribe falls in tourney
COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery seventh grade girls basketball team fell in the opening round of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament Thursday.
St. Henry hit a last-second shot to beat the Indians 30-27 to end Fort Recovery’s tournament hopes.
Faith Kahlig scored eight points to lead the Indians, and Hanna Knapke had seven. Aleigha Jenkins and Brooke Gaerke both scored four points, and Elise Gehle chipped in three points.

Indians, Wildcast split
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery and Minster seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split Thursday.
The eighth grade Indians earned a 43-39 victory over the Wildcats, and Minster’s seventh graders topped Fort Recovery 31-23.
Cade Wendel scored 20 points to lead the Fort Recovery eighth graders in the win. Ethan Schoen chipped in eight points in support of Wendel.
Payton Jutte led the seventh grade Indians with nine points, and Derek Siefring scored four points in the loss.[[In-content Ad]]
