Local roundup

FORT RECOVERY - All it took was one victory to get the Indians going.

Fort Recovery's eighth grade boys basketball team opened the season with eight straight defeats, but has now won three in a row after topping the Marion Local Flyers 35-28 Thursday. The Tribe seventh grade team suffered a 31-14 defeat.

The Indian eighth graders had not won a game before Jared Thobe hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in overtime for a 38-37 victory over St. Marys Saturday. They added a win over Ansonia Tuesday, then jumped out to a five-point, first-quarter lead over Marion Local Thursday. They pushed the advantage to nine at halftime and stayed in control to improve to 3-8.

John Homan led Fort Recovery with 10 points. Shane Brunswick was right behind him with nine points, and Nate Bihn added eight.

The Tribe seventh grade team (2-9) trailed by just four heading into the final period. But it got outscored 15-2 in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
