Tribe thumps Blue Jays, 19-9

DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery scored early and often.
The Indians scored two or more runs in six innings in a 19-9 rout of the host St. John’s Blue Jays.
Fort Recovery scored four in the first and three in each of the second and third innings for a quick 10-0 lead. The Blue Jays ended the shutout bid with a trio of runs in the home half of the third, but the Tribe answered with a pair in the top of the fourth and sixth innings.
St. John’s put up a half dozen in the home half of the sixth to get within five, 14-9. The five-run deficit didn’t last long as the Indians doubled its lead in the top of the seventh.
Elijah Kahlig led the Indians with three hits, including two doubles, and five RBIs. Cole Wendel, Blake Boughman and Derek Backs had two hits apiece, as the Indians smacked a dozen for the game. Boughman added three RBIs, and Jacob Muhlenkamp, Jackson Hobbs and Wendel each drove in a pair.
Wendel started on the mound and earned the win, giving up three unearned runs on four hits.

Fort falls in extras
HOUSTON, Ohio — The Indians almost had their first win of the season Saturday.
The Houston Cougars scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday for a 5-4 walk-off victory, stealing a win from the Fort Recovery softball team.
Jackie Fullenkamp had a two-run home run and added another RBI to lead Fort Recovery, which saw its winless streak pushed to 18 games.
Chelsea Timmerman added a double and scored the tying run in the top of the seventh, and Whitney Will had a single.
Ashley Homan took the loss for the Indians, giving up four earned runs on 11 hits while striking out eight and walking two. Offensively, she also had a pair of hits.

JV golfers 10th
NEW HAVEN — The Jay County junior varsity golf team finished 10th Saturday in the New Haven Invitational at Whispering Creek Golf Club.
The Patriots had a score of 394. Bishop Dwenger won the 12-team meet with a score of 297. Carroll scored a 312 for second, and Leo was third with 322.
Nick Hayden led Jay County with a round of 93 on the par-72 course. Kyler Hudson posted a 96, and John Crosbie was one stroke behind. Sok Vormohr shot a 108 to round out the Patriots’ team score.
Christian Current also competed for Jay County, turning in a score of 120.

WJMS track wins
GASTON — The Warriors were no match for the visiting Eagles.
The West Jay Middle School boys and girls track teams picked up dominating wins over Wes-Del Monday. The WJMS girls won 85-15, and the boys won 82-17.
Cole Stigleman led the boys with three individual victories, earning wins in the 100-meter dash, shot put and high jump. Holton Hill also picked up a pair of victories in the 110 hurdles and 800 run. Nick Neal (200 dash), Matthew Paquette (1,600 run), Mitchell Ferguson (discus) and Jordan Stultz (long jump) also earned individual wins.
Seven different girls won events for West Jay. Shelby McClain (110 hurdles), Kensey Litton (100 dash), Halle Hill (400 dash) and Callie Stigleman (200 dash) won their respective races. Rhegan Shimp (shot put), Karlie Bullard (high jump) and Hanna Ault (long jump) won field events for the Eagles.

West Jay first at invite
Kimber Harris and Rhegan Shimp led the West Jay Middle School girls track team to a first-place finish Saturday in the East Jay Relays at Jay County High School.
The Eagles won the five-team meet with 67 points. East Jay was second with 55, and South Adams placed third with 51.
Harris successfully cleared 4 feet, 6 inches, in the high jump to earn first place, and Shimp won the shot put with a distance of 27 feet, 9 ½ inches.
Also earning a victory for the Eagles was the 4x100 meter relay team of Kensey Litton, Hannah Ault, Karlie Bullard and Callie Stigleman, who won with a time of 55.9 seconds.
Bullard as second behind Harris in the high jump and Litton earned a pair of second place finishes in the 100 dash and the long jump.
Stigleman joined Sabreena Ferguson, Halle Hill and Callie Crosby to take second in the 1,200 sprint medley relay, and teamed up with Harris, Ault and Litton for second in the 800 sprint medley relay.

Judan takes second
Judan Judo scored 108 points to take second at a tournament it hosted April 26 at East Jay Middle School.
Anderson YMCA Judo Club scored 111 points to win the tournament, which had members representing 47 judo clubs from seven states and Canada.
Earning first place finishes for Judan Judo were Savanna Hamilton, Gabbie Newton, Krysta Grayson, Cody Rowles, Trenten Hamilton, AJ Williamson, Miguel Arriaga, Caleb Culy and Vivienne Kunkler.
Raylah Newton, Kailyn Hankins, Cassandra Guffey, Kyndal Huey, Amanda Bailey, Jacoby Penrod, Luke Moser, Eathen Dennis, Alex Moser, Stone McKenna, Brian Kaufman, Michael Williamson and Amanda Buell placed second.[[In-content Ad]]
