Tribe wins in eighth

Fort Recovery roundup

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians never hit the ball out of the infield in the extra inning. But they didn't need to.

Josie Guggenbiller started the bottom of the eighth inning with an infield hit and scored the game-winning run on an error by the Minster Wildcats as the Fort Recovery softball team picked up a 2-1 victory.

Minster (6-7, 0-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) held a 1-0 lead until the Indians (11-6, 3-1 MAC) pulled even in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Guggenbiller led off the bottom of the eighth with an infield single, and then Carly Staugler put down a bunt. The Wildcats tried to get the out at second base, but the throw was off the mark and then got past the center fielder allowing Guggenbiller to come all the way around to score.

Shelby Brunswick had a hit and a run, and Taylor Guggenbiller added an RBI. Olivia Thien, Kendra Brunswick and Staugler also had hits in the victory.

Andi Sutter earned the win, striking out five batters in eight innings. She gave up the run on three hits and two walks.

Baseball blanked

MINSTER, Ohio - Fort Recover managed just a single hit in a 10-0, five-inning loss to the Minster Wildcats.

Nathan Keller took the loss for the Indians (1-9, 0-3 Midwest Athletic Conference), who gave up seven runs in the second inning and three in the fifth. He allowed seven runs on three hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.

Ethan Schoenherr had the lone hit for Fort Recovery against the Wildcats (11-4, 4-0 MAC).

JV softball falls

WAPAKONETA, Ohio - A 1-0 Tribe lead disappeared when the Wapakoneta Redskins scored seven times in the bottom of the first inning to on the way to handing the Indians a 12-2, six-inning defeat.

Wapakoneta pushed the lead to 9-1 in the second inning and scored three times in the sixth for the final margin.

Becca Tobe took the loss as she gave up 10 hits and seven walks. Half of the 12 runs against her were unearned because of six errors.

Melissa Lochtefeld and Tobe each had a hit and a run, and Sierra Loya added a single and an RBI. Brittany Sudhoff also drove in a run.[[In-content Ad]]
