Trio leads Jay County to win over Red Devils (01/12/07)

RICHMOND - Three players scored in double figures to lead the Jay County freshman boys team to a 45-30 victory Thursday over the Richmond Red Devils.

The Patriots trailed by one after the opening period, but locked down the defense and dominated the next two quarters. They outscored Richmond 13-3 in the second quarter to take a nine-point halftime lead, and took a 12-4 advantage in the third to pull away.

Brad Horn led the effort, hitting a pair of 3-pointers as he scored a game-high 14 points.

Eric Homan hit for 10 of his 12 points in the opening half, and Taylor Farmer added 10 points.

Eagles slam South Adams

West Jay Middle School's girls teams dominated Thursday night, each cruising to big victories over the South Adams Starfires.

The Eagle eighth grade team won 27-9 while the seventh graders took a 25-11 victory.

Two WJMS eighth graders totaled more points than the entire South Adams squad as Melynda Brackman led all scorers with 12.

Taylor Burress was right behind her with 11 points.

Marissa Murrell powered the seventh grade victory with eight points. Megan Roush added six, and Megan Sawyer scored five.

Knoxville downs Tribe

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys team fell short Thursday in a 44-35 loss to New Knoxville, and the seventh graders also fell by a 24-15 count.

Jared Kahlig scored nine points for the Tribe seventh grade squad.

EJMS seventh falls

Winchester Driver won the only full game Thursday night, defeating the East Jay Middle School seventh grade boys 33-24. The Chiefs were leading the eighth grade game 13-10 when it was suspended because of a power outage.

Andy Haffner led the East Jay seventh graders with 10 points as they fell to 6-3. Dillon Ainsworth and Matt Landfair each had four points.

Balanced Chiefs roll

The East Jay Middle School sixth grade girls team kicked off its season in style Wednesday as four players shared the scoring lead in a 36-2 thumping of Union City Westside.

Hannah Ainsworth, Emily DeVoe, Lexie Gierhart and Rachelle Jackson each scored six points in the Chiefs' big win. DeVoe had five steals, and Ainsworth finished with three assists.

Stephanie Hudson and Gabie Cross each grabbed five rebounds.

In the B team game, Hannah Fifer scored four points and Allie Thayer had five rebounds as East Jay fell 15-14 in double overtime.[[In-content Ad]]
