Trio of area grads having succesful volleyball seasons (09/26/07)
Collegiate Check-up
Three area graduates - Joscie Kaup, Erica Clark and Tiff Gaerke - are all contributing to their respective volleyball teams.
Kaup, a 2004 Fort Recovery High School graduate, continues to lead the Syracuse University women's volleyball team on defense. Her best match last week came in a five-game loss to New Hampshire in which she had 15 digs, and an ace.
The senior, who set the school's career digs record already this season, also had 13 digs, three assists and an ace in a loss to SMU along with three digs and two aces in a victory over Holy Cross.
Kaup continues to lead the Big East in digs with 273 overall, and is second with 4.96 digs per game.
Gaerke, who graduated from FRHS in June, has played in each of the last two matches for undefeated at No. 21 ranked Dayton University.
She had two kills and two digs in a three-game win over the host Tigers at the Towson Invitational, and added two kills in a three-game sweep of University of Maryland Baltimore County.
For the season the freshman, who has played in six matches and 11 games for the 13-0 Flyers, has totaled 12 kills, 11 digs, four aces and two blocks.
Clark has played in eight of the 10 matches this season for the Marion College volleyball team, which has a 5-5 record. She has totaled 93 assists, 11 blocks, five kills and four digs.
Jill Roughia
Jay County - 2005
Led the Huntington University women's cross country team, which finished 13th in the small-school division at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships at Purdue University.
Roughia finished 114th overall at the Sept. 14 event with a time of 20-minutes, 59 seconds.
Joseph Vormohr
Jay County - 2007
Got his second career start for the Hanover College football team, playing center Sept. 15 against Washington and Jefferson.
The Panthers slipped to 0-3 on the year with a 50-14 defeat.
Alyssa Johnson
Jay County - 2006
Turned in the No. 3 time for the Taylor University women's cross country team at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
The Trojans were sixth in the small-school division, with Johnson placing 32nd in 19-minutes, 54.32 seconds.

Jay County - 2005
Joined Roughia and Johnson at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships, competing in the men's race for Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Ian finished 71st in 27-minutes, 58 seconds, and his twin brother Mitchell was 90th at 28:33.[[In-content Ad]]
