The state will provide crisis counseling and outreach services to victims of last month’s floods, the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration announced Monday.
The Associated Press reported that the state Division of Mental Health and Addiction has received $100,000 toward counseling from the Federal Emergency Management Administration.
“This grant will help us to continue working with flood victims to let them know that resources are available and that they are probably having a normal reaction to an abnormal event,” FSSA Secretary John Hamilton said in a statement.
Forty Indiana counties were declared major disaster areas after storms in early July caused flooding along many rivers and streams.
The state will provide onsite training and counseling services through local service providers, including Behavioral Health Services of Howard Community Hospital in Kokomo, Park Center Inc. in Fort Wayne, and Wabash Valley Inc. in West Lafayette.
FEMA will also provide crisis counseling at its disaster recovery centers in Bluffton, Kokomo and Fort Wayne.
