CITY ACCIDENTS

A van driven by a rural Portland woman stuck an overhang at a Portland bank on Monday at 12:03 p.m.

Deanna L. Green, 41, 2219 East 400 North, was entering the drive-through area at the First Bank of Berne, 185 Industrial Park Drive, when the vent on top of her 1995 Dodge Van, struck the overhang.

Damage to the van, registered to Jay-Randolph Developmental Services Inc., 901 E. Water St., Portland, was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.

A truck driven by a Portland woman struck a parked truck in the parking lot of the Jay County Courthouse Annex building on Monday at 9 a.m.

Sandra R. Yarger, 43, 1132 W. Collett Drive, told Portland police that she was pulling into the parking lot of the annex and slid on a patch of ice. Her 1987 truck, registered to Robin Howell, same address as driver, struck a 1998 GMC Sonoma, registered to the Jay County Commissioners, 120 W. Main St., Portland. Damage to the two trucks was estimated between $750 and $1,000.

Also Monday, a car driven by a Dunkirk man slid into a car parked in the parking lot of Box USA in Portland on Monday at 11:45 a.m.

Charles T. Revolt, 19, 714 S. Franklin St., was pulling into a parking spot when his car slid into a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass, registered to James and Shelley Rockwood, 421 E. Arch St., Portland.

Revolt was cited by Portland police for driving while his license was suspended and driving without financial responsibility.

Damage to his car and Rockwood’s car was estimated at less than $750.

A van driven by a Portland man collided with a parked car on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Box USA.

Gregory M. Schwieterman, 22, 1237 North U.S. 27, collided with a 1997 Dodge Neon, registered to Steve Beach, 305 Blaine Pike, Portland, in the parking lot located at 300 Industrial Park Drive, Portland.

Damage to Schwieterman’s 1996 Ford van and Beach’s car was estimated at less than $750.

Schwieterman was cited by police for driving without proof of financial responsibility.

ODOR INVESTIGATION

Portland firefighters were called to a South Shank Street home on Monday at 8:36 p.m. for an odor investigation.

Firefighters were called to the home occupied by Marlene Smith, 955 S. Shank St., and owned by Rodney Smith, Portland, to investigate an odor in the house. The cause of the odor was a malfunctioning motor in a refrigerator, according to Portland Fire Chief Mike Thomas.

ICY ACCIDENTS

Several vehicles were involved in accidents on snow- or ice-covered roads over the weekend.

A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman slid off the road Sunday at 10:50 a.m. in Wayne Township.

Vicky L. Money, 53, 1170 East Koch Drive, told police she was southbound on Boundary Pike, just south of the Portland city limits, when she lost control of her vehicle and slid off the east side of the road, colliding with several small trees.

Money was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger, registered to Cheryl Geesaman, 2081 South 50 East, Portland

Damage was estimated at less than $750.

A vehicle driven by a Portland woman’s slid off a snow-covered road Sunday at 1:15 a.m. in Pike Township.

Masilynn S. Tiller, 32, 406 W. Main St., told police she was northbound on U.S. 27, 500 feet south of county road 550 South, when she lost control of here 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, which slid off the west side of the road.

Damage was estimated between $750 and $1,000.

PENNVILLE ACCIDENT

Vehicles driven by Pennville residents collided Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at the intersection of Ind. 1 and Kentucky Street in Pennville.

Rex Edmundson Sr., 70, Mulberry Street, told Jay County police he was stopped on Kentucky Street at the intersection of Ind. 1, preparing to make a left-hand turn.

Edmundson told police he did not see any vehicles approaching and proceeded to turn left.

Wade T. Wallace, 17, 2828 North Ind. 1, told police he was northbound on Ind. 1 when Edmundson’s 1995 Ford Windstar pulled out in front of him from Kentucky Street.

Wallace’s 1989 Mercury XR collided with the passenger side of Edmundson’s vehicle as he veered off the east side of the road in an attempt to avoid the collision.

Combined to the vehicles was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.

DEER ACCIDENT

A collision with a deer on Sunday at 6:21 a.m. in Penn Township caused less than $750 in damage to a rural Keystone man’s sport utility vehicle.

William C. Morris, 56, 1373 West 1050 South, was driving east on Balbec Road, about 500 feet east of county road 950 West, when he struck the deer with his 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

DRIVE-OFF

An employee of Village Pantry in Portland reported to Portland police on Monday at 7:26 p.m. that two men drove off without paying for $13 in gasoline. The two men were driving a red, four-door car, according to the employee.

AREA COURTS

The following area residents were fined or paid deferral fees recently in Bluffton City Court. Karen Emerick, Pennville, was fined $25 for a seat belt violation.

Michael Brunner, rural Geneva, paid $137 to enter a deferral program on a charge of speeding.[[In-content Ad]]
