The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive Friday, Jan. 2, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 204 E. Arch St., Portland, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. Donors must be 17 years old, weigh at least 110 lbs., and be in general good health. Identification is needed.
To help ensure adequate supplies and volunteers, please call the Red Cross to make an appointment at (800) GIVE-LIFE.

The Jay County Health Department has received doses of the FluMist flu vaccine and will be administering them this afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. at the courthouse annex, 504 W. Arch St., Portland.
FluMist is an active (live) vaccine that is administered by spray into the nose. It should only be taken by healthy individuals be-tween the ages of 5 and 49.
A $5 administrative fee will be charged.
The vaccines will also be administered Tuesday, Jan. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Pleads
A preliminary plea of not guilty was entered in Wells Circuit Court for a Portland man arrested for child molesting, a class C felony.
Randy W. Haffner, 37, 121 E. Race St., was arrested on Dec. 15 and was held in the Wells County Jail on $10,000 bond.
During the initial hearing on Dec. 16, a jury trial was scheduled for June 14, 2004.
Seeking
The office of Indiana Gov. Joe Kernan is currently seeking applicants for the position of Dunkirk City Court Judge.
No one filed to run for the position during this year’s city elections.
Tommy D. “Chip” Phillips, a Democrat whose term in office expires Wednesday, was on active military duty and unable to run for re-election.
The new judge will take office upon his or her appointment and will serve a four-year term ending Dec. 31, 2007.
Applicants are not required to be an attorney, but must reside in the city of Dunkirk at the time of appointment and the entire time they are serving in office.
Applications may be obtained by calling the governor’s office at (317) 232-1800 or by writing Office of the Governor, Attention: Jon Laramore, General Counsel, 206 Statehouse, Indianapolis, IN, 46204.
