Capsule Reports

Schedule changes
Wednesday is the final day for students to make changes to their schedules for the 2012-13 school year at Jay County High School. Guidance counselors will be available from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

BMV hours
R. Scott Waddell, Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, announced Fourth of July closures.
All BMV license branches are closed July 4 for the holiday. The branches will resume regular hours on July 5.

Ran off road
A Washington woman lost control of her vehicle on Boundary Pike.
Adana M. Ramos, 22, McChord, Washington, was traveling south on Boundary Pike. While crossing the intersection on Boundary Pike near 300 South, she crossed loose stone and began skidding. She lost control and overcorrected the 2000 Chevrolet Impala, registered to Kyle L. Ramos, Union City.
The vehicle slid and went into the ditch where it struck a tree, spun around, flipped on its top and struck a concrete post.
Police arrived at the scene at 5:15 p.m. Monday.  Estimated damages are between $2,500 and $5,000. No injuries were reported.

Lincoln collision

Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Ben Hawkins and Lincoln Street in Portland.
Inger S. Rathbun, 84, 510 N. Middle St., was stopped at the stop sign as she was heading north on Ben Hawkins Avenue. She did not see any vehicles coming, so she proceeded into the intersection in her 2000 Chevrolet Silverado.
Jeremy M. Ingram, 30, 4714 N. 250 West, Portland, was westbound on Lincoln and saw Rathbun’s vehicle pull out in front of him. He was unable to stop and was hit at the intersection.
Rathbun’s right tire ran over the front corner of Ingram’s 2000 Dodge Avenger, registered to Randall L. Morgan, Pennville.
Police were called at 2:33 p.m. Monday.
The estimated damages for the two vehicles were between $1,000 and $2,500.

Damaged mailbox
A Bryant man reported a damaged mailbox.
Simon Troyer, 8723 N. 250 East, Bryant, noticed his mailbox had been knocked down. He said he was checking the area for downed stop signs when he reported the damage at 9:12 a.m. Monday.

Stolen bike
A Portland woman reported a missing dirt bike.
Debbie Shreve, 1008 W. Walnut St., said a dirt bike was stolen from her garage. Shreve said she did not know when it went missing, but remembered seeing it May.
She reported the theft at 10:31 p.m. Monday.[[In-content Ad]]
