Meeting canceled
The Fort Recovery Booster Club meeting scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled because the FRHS baseball team is playing for the sectional championship at Minster.
Hits house
A Fort Wayne man told police he fell asleep while driving Monday in Geneva, went off the street and struck a house.
Timothy A. Dunkin, 25, 921 E. Dupont Road, told Geneva police he was driving south on Main Street and fell asleep. His 2003 Acura crossed the centerline and struck a house located at 105 E. Butcher St. Dunkin said he was on his way to work in Portland when the accident occurred.
The 7:15 a.m. accident caused combined estimated damage of $10,000 to $25,000 to the car and house.
Woman injured
A rural Portland woman was injured Monday in a two-vehicle accident.
Brenda S. Bergman, 58, 4252 North U.S. 27, was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service to Jay County Hospital for elbow pain. The accident occurred at 3:26 p.m. on Votaw Street in Portland.
Bergman told Portland police she was attempting to turn onto Votaw Street from Patriot Drive and failed to see Kylie M. Cramer, 22, 604 W. Arch St., Apt. 1, Portland, driving west on Votaw Street. The vehicles collided.
Combined damage to Bergman's 2005 Chrysler and Cramer's 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Brakes fail
A rural Portland teenager told police the brakes on her car failed, causing the vehicle to go off the road and into a ditch in Jefferson Township on Sunday.
Sara N. Colvin, 17, 6245 South 325 West, told Jay County police she was driving southwest on Mt. Pleasant Road and attempted to turn south onto county road 250 West. She braked and the 2007 Chevrolet Malibu went off the road and into a ditch.
The 8:25 p.m. accident caused an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 in damage.
Slides on road
A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman and a car driven by a Portland man collided in Wayne Township on Sunday.
A 2003 Suzuki Aerio driven by Jessica R. West, 25, 2261 South 50 East, and a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Ryan D. Edmundson, 19, 527 W. Main St., collided at 12:49 p.m.
West told Jay County police she was driving east on county road 300 North and slowing to turn south onto county road 200 West. The car began to slide on the wet pavement. It was raining at the time of the accident.
At the same time, Edmundson was driving north on county road 200 West and was stopped at county road 300 North. The Suzuki slid and struck the Pontiac.
Police estimated combined damage to the Suzuki, registered to Dustin West, 1310 W. South St., Bluffton, and Edmundson's Pontiac at $1,000 to $2,500.
Hits pole
A vehicle driven by a Pennville woman struck a utility pole in Penn Township on Friday.
Manie J. Klarer, 32, 295 E. Maple St., told Jay County police she was driving west on county road 300 North, just east of county road 750 West. As she was driving on a curve, she lost control of her 1988 Ford Ranger. The car began to spin and went off the east side of the road where it struck a utility pole.
The 7:20 p.m. accident caused combined damage to the truck and the pole, owned by Indiana Michigan Power, estimated at less than $1,000.
Hits deer
A Michigan man's vehicle received damage estimated at $2,500 to $5,000 when it struck a deer in Bearcreek Township on Friday.
George E. Shugart, 53, 857 Millers Park, Elk Rapids, said he was driving north on U.S. 27, just north of county road 500 North. A deer ran onto the road and he could not avoid hitting it with his 2003 Ford Windstar.
The accident occurred at 7:33 p.m., Jay County police said. The van also is registered to Becky Shugart, same address.
Sign hit
A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman struck a sign at a local business on Monday.
An employee of Preferred Family Physicians, 430 W. Votaw St., Portland, said a 2000 Chrysler driven by Vivian Geesaman, 1589 North 200 West, Portland, struck a handicapped parking sign.
Geesaman drove onto a curb and hit the sign, knocking it down.
The accident was reported to Portland police Monday at 12:45 p.m.
Stolen from yard
A Portland man reported the theft of several figurines from his yard recently.
Harold White, 308 E. Seventh St., told Portland police the theft occurred between 2:30 a.m. and 5:40 p.m. on Monday.
A plaster zebra, three plastic ducks, a plastic bear, two small plastic rabbits, a bear holding a welcome sign, a pig and two trolls were stolen.
Mousse stolen
A Portland resident told police someone vandalized the inside of her home and stole two items.
Stacey Newton, 827 S. Shank St., told Portland police she came home Monday about 4 a.m. and discovered that the locks on her back door were removed and eggs had been thrown around inside her house. Also, a can of mousse and a compact disc were stolen.
Newton said she spent the night at her mother's house on Sunday and came home Monday morning to get ready for work.
Activity report
Geneva police made 253 security checks during April, and issued 69 tickets, 17 of them for speeding.
Police made nine arrests last month.
Four were for domestic battery, three for driving while suspended, one for driving while intoxicated, and one for driving without a license.
The Geneva department also assisted Berne police on seven occasions and responded to seven domestic incidents.[[In-content Ad]]
