Betty Bedwell

Betty E. Bedwell, 82, Hartford City, a former Dunkirk resident, died Monday at Blackford Community Hospital in Hartford City.

Born on Sept. 6, 1925, in Fort Wayne to Frank and Mary Frances (Bolner) Montgomery, she was married on June 26, 1953, in Angola to Harold D. Bedwell, who died on July 26, 1995.

Retiring from Indiana Glass, she had also worked at Armstrong Cork in Dunkirk.

Survivors include a son, Randy Bedwell, Portland; three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Margaret Anne) Smith, Union City; Mrs. Lloyd (Sharon) Hopkins and Mrs. Scott (Tana) Davis, both of Dunkirk; a stepson, Ted Stensel, LaPeer, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes-Walker Chapel in Montpelier with Pastors Steven Smith and Randy Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hartford City Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald Lewis

Donald Lewis, 71, died Tuesday at Persimmon Ridge in Portland.

Born on April 10, 1937, in Portland, to George and Anita (Lang) Mast, he was a fisherman and logger in Alaska for several years.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Goebel, Archer, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Lowell Shreeve, Portland; and two grandsons.

Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Rogers Durham officiating. Burial of the cremains will take place at a later date.

Visitation is Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Richard Sipe

Richard A. Sipe, 94, Winchester, a former Saratoga resident, died Friday at St. Vincent Randolph Hospital in Winchester.

Born on Aug. 14, 1913, in Randolph County, to Mary and Bert Sipe, he graduated from Saratoga High School in 1932.

He was married in 1936 to Helen L. Clear, who died in 2005.

He and his wife were owners and operators of Sipe's Paint and Wallpaper Store in Winchester from 1962 until 1977. He also worked at Anchor Hocking Glass in Winchester from 1935 until 1945 and was owner and operator, with his brother-in-law, of T.H. Warren Brothers General Store in Saratoga for 17 years.

Memberships include Saratoga United Methodist Church, Lions International and 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner.

Survivors include a son, Gene Sipe, Fort Peck, Mont.; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Peggy) West, Winchester; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services are Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Winchester with Pastor Carl Greene officiating. Entombment will be in Saratoga Cemetery in Saratoga.

Visitation is today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Saratoga United Methodist Church or State of the Heart Hospice with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Mary Jellison-Boice

Mary Helen Jellison-Boice, 93, 631 E. Water St., Portland, died Saturday at her grandson's home in Portland.

Born in Jay County on Dec. 7, 1914, to Arthur and Eva (Bisel) Alexander, she was married on Feb. 22, 1939, to John W. "Jay" Jellison, who died on June 26, 1989. She was later married to George Boice who died in 2001.

A 1946 graduate of the Chicago School of Nursing, she retired as a L.P.N. from Jay County Hospital and also worked at Community Care West and Chalet Village.

Memberships include Noble Congregational Christian Church, a 60 year member of Rebekah Lodge No. 307, a 50 year member of Do A Lot Home Demonstration Club, past president of District 27 Rebekah Lodge, Jay County Hospital Auxiliary and Jay County Quilt Club.

Survivors include two sons, P.G. Jellison, Portland, and Larry Lee Jellison, New Castle; three stepsons, George, Randy and Robert Boice, all of Bryant; a sister, Donna Mae Walling, Venice, Fla.; a brother, Albert Ward Alexander, Troy, Ill.; four grandchildren, including Shane Jellison, Portland, and two great-grandchildren.

Services are Friday at 10 a.m. in Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Bothast officiating. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Noble Congregational Christian Church Building Fund.

Everett Stauffer

Services were held today for Everett N. Stauffer, 88, Berne, who died Saturday at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne. His daughter teaches in the Jay School Corporation.

Born on April 2, 1920, in Adams County, to Noah and Bertha (Biberstine) Stauffer, he was married on June 28, 1941, to Eileen Steiner who survives.

Other survivors include three sons; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Rowell, Berne; a sister; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Burial was in the Evangelical Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home in Berne was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be sent to the Evangelical Mennonite Church or Northeast Family Hospice.

James Trobridge

James T. Trobridge, 76, Okeechobee, Fla., died Sunday in Okeechobee. He was a former Portland resident.

Born on Nov. 25, 1931, to Roy and Mary E. (King) Trobridge, in Sidney, Ohio, his wife Betty Trobridge survives.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Korean War.

Surviving besides his wife are two sisters, Mary Keen, Portland, and Barbara Paradine, Waterloo, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. No services will be held. Cremation will take place.[[In-content Ad]]
