DEPUTY ACCIDENT
A Jay County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a one-vehicle collision while on duty early this morning in Wayne Township.
David M. Tarter, 22, 422 S. Meridian St., was driving south on Blaine Pike, about 1,000 feet north of county road 200 South, when he entered a curve.
The 1999 Ford Crown Victoria went off of the right side of the road into the grass. The vehicle spun on the wet grass and crossed to the east side of the road and came to rest in the ditch. Tarter was responding to a call at the time of the accident, an official from the department said this morning.
Damage to the car, owned by Jay County Commissioners, was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
THEFT
Portland police investigated a theft on South Meridian Street that occurred sometime between Sunday at 9:30 p.m. and Monday at 7 a.m.
Rodney L. Renbarger, 5187 Grove Drive, Celina, Ohio, told police that the center cap from a tire of his 2002 Ford truck had been stolen and the wheel of the truck was scratched and the valve stem caps were gone. Estimated value of the stolen item was between $200 and $300.
POWER LINE ACCIDENT
Two Fort Wayne men in separate vehicles came across downed electrical transmission lines in Pike Township Sunday afternoon.
At 1:55 p.m., Harold P. Ake, 52, 6101 S. Calhoun St., was eastbound on county road 400 South near county road 300 East when his vehicle’s antennae struck an electrical transmission line that had been knocked down in a prior accident.
Wilbur E. Ake, 54, 1115 Old U.S. 27 South, struck the same electrical line at 1:56 p.m. The line hit the roof of his vehicle.
Estimated damage to Harold Ake’s 2004 Chrysler was less than $750 and estimated damages to Wilbur Ake’s 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, also registered to Connie C. Ake, same address as driver, were between $750 and $1,000.
PARKING LOT INCIDENT
A parked car was struck by an unknown vehicle in the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy, 802 N. Meridian St., Portland, Monday afternoon. A 2002 Oldsmobile registered to Robert and Tamara Kaufman, 1017 East 100 South, Portland, was struck by an unknown vehicle at 5:15 p.m. Estimated damages to Kaufman’s car were between $1,000 and $2,500.[[In-content Ad]]
