Franklin Hone
Franklin David Hone, 63, 5621 E. North St., Salamonia, died late Monday evening at his home following an extended illness.
Born to Edward and Viola M. (Lawrence) Hone on April 25, 1940, in Mercer County, Ohio, he served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He married Judith K. Trisel on April 8, 1961. She survives.
A former Portland resident, he retired after 30 years as a self-employed utility contractor for various area telephone companies.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Lisa) Manor, Portland; one son, Mike Hone, Decatur; six sisters, Doris Snyder, Celina, Ohio, Mr. Valier (Ermal) Amstutz, Berne, Mrs. Clyde (Inez) Goins, Eaton, Ohio, Mrs. Duane (Mary) Boroff and Mrs. Bob (Elaine) Zizelman, both of , Mendon, Ohio, Mrs. Bob (Barb) Thees, Celina, Ohio; two brothers, George Hone, St. Marys, Ohio, and John Hone, Tampa, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Services are Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Portland Chapel of the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Stanton will officiate. Cremation will follow. The Salamonia V.F.W. will conduct military rites. Cremains will be buried at a later date at the Salamonia Cemetery, Salamonia.
Visitation is Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice of Mercer/Darke Counties.
Emma Schwartz
Emma A. Schwartz, 73, rural Berne, died early Sunday morning at her residence.
She was the mother of Bryant and Geneva residents.
Born in Adams County on March 21, 1930, to Joseph and Anna (Schwartz) Hilty, she married Jacob D.J. Schwartz on March 29, 1953. He survives.
She was a member of the Old Order Amish.
Surviving are nine sons, including Joe E.J. and Rueben E.J. Schwartz, both of Bryant, and Enos E.J. and Levi E.J. Schwartz, both of Geneva; six daughters, including Mrs. Jerry B. (Melinda) Girod, Bryant; one brother; four sisters; 131 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services are Wednesday at 9 a.m. at her home, 6204 South 300 East, Berne with Chris M. Schwartz officiating. Burial will take place in Bluecreek Township Amish Cemetery, rural Berne.
Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at the home.
Arrangements are being handled by Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne.
Ronald Danielson
Ronald L. Danielson, 69, Bradford, Pa., died Sunday afternoon at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, Pa.
He was the father of a Portland resident.
Born in Kane, Pa., on Dec. 22, 1933, to Harlan H. and Alice F. (Osbeck) Danielson, he was a graduate of Mt. Jewett High School, Clarion University and Penn State University. He also received an administrative certificate from St. Bonaventure University. He served for four years with the U.S. Air Force.
He married Ruth E. Wherry on June 9, 1962. She survives.
He was the athletic director for Bradford Area School District, Bradford, Pa., for 15 years; taught at MJ Ryan for 3 years, then at Bradford High School for 32 years. He served on the District IX Athletic Committee for nine years and retired in 1992.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bradford, he belonged to the Bradford Rotary Club, and received a Paul Harris Award in 2002; and belonged to Odd Fellow, American Legion, and PSEA-NEA.
Other survivors include his parents, Harlan and Alice, Kane, Pa.; two sons, including Timothy W. Danielson, Portland; one brother; one sister; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services are Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Bradford, with the Rev. Lee Beckes presiding.
Burial will follow in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Mt. Jewitt, Pa.
Visitation is Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Koch Chatley Gaeto Memorial Chapel, Bradford, Pa.
