BURGLARY
Approximately $230 in cash was reported stolen Monday from a Portland business.
Ken Schweiterman, owner of Portland True Value, 1100 N. Meridian St., told Portland police on Monday morning that $230 was stolen from the office area. Sweiterman told police that the suspect pried open the office door.
The burglary occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Sunday and 7:22 a.m. Monday.
COATS STOLEN
Two coats valued at a total of $100 were stolen from a thrift shop on South Wayne Street on Monday.
An employee of the shop, located 521 S. Wayne St., and owned by Community Family Service told Portland police that two Carhartt jackets were stolen between noon and 1 p.m. on Monday.
ADAMS ACCIDENT
A Bryant man was involved in a two-vehicle accident Friday evening in Adams County.
Rolland W. Coon, 68, had stopped at the intersection of county roads 800 South and 150 East then proceeded into the intersection, colliding with a pickup truck driven by Daniel J. Abnet, 48, rural Berne.
Estimated damages to the vehicles were between $1,000 and $2,500.
COUNTY ACCIDENTS
A Marion woman and a Fairmont man received injuries in a one-vehicle accident Sunday night in Jackson Township on Ind. 18 near county road 550 West. Both were cited for alcohol related charges.
Jaime D. Green, 20, 1224 W. Spencer Ave., and Tommy L. Billings, 22, 508 S. Penn St., were transported by Jay Emergency Medical Services following the 11:37 p.m. accident. Green complained of back pain and sustained minor bleeding and Billings complained of neck pain.
The accident occurred when Green was traveling westbound on Ind. 18 near county road 550 South. She told Jay County police she hit standing water and lost control of her car, which spun around, left the north side of the road and struck a utility pole owned by Jay County REMC.
Estimated damage to Green’s 1995 Ford Taurus was between $2,500 and $5,000. The car was towed from the scene.
Billings was cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor and Green was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
At 8:15 a.m. on Monday, William E. White, 43, 2079 Gosling Court, Franklin, was eastbound on Ind. 18 near county road 50 West in Bearcreek Township when he lost control of his vehicle on the wet road. His car left the north side of the road and stopped in a wooded area.
Estimated damage to the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer, registered to GTI Spindle Technology Inc., 33 Zachary Road, Manchester, was between $2,500 and $5,000.

Portland police investigated three accidents on Monday.
David S. Short, 19, 954 S. 23rd, Richmond, told police he was slowing down at 10:02 a.m. in the southbound lane of Meridian Street near Votaw Street when his car slid on the wet road and collided with the rear end of a vehicle driven by Clifton E. McCoy, 58, 284 Union City-Elroy Road, Union City, Ohio.
Estimated damage to the 1989 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Short and registered to John J. Hardesty, 7142 North U.S. 27, Ridgeville, and the 1998 Chevrolet delivery truck driven by McCoy and registered to Lance Inc., 5300 E. Main St., Columbus, Ohio.
Mike L. Newton, 8577 North 200 West, Ridgeville, told police Monday he discovered his 1997 Ford Ranger had been damaged by an unknown vehicle while it was parked in an alley between Meridian and Vine Streets near Sixth Street. The damage occurred sometime between 5 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.
Estimated damages were between $750 and $1,000.
A parked car owned by a Portland woman was struck in a parking lot by an unknown vehicle sometime on Monday.
The 1987 Buick car, registered to Carole J. Funk, 600 S. Meridian St., was struck causing damage estimated between $750 and $1,000.
The car was parked in the parking lot of Orchard Park Apartments located at 600 S. Meridian St., Portland.
MEETING
The Jay County Cemetery Commission will meet Monday, Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m. at the Jay County Genealogy office, 109 S. Commerce St., Portland. The public is invited to attend.
HOUSING AUTHORITY
The Portland Housing Authority will distribute $13,307 in rental assistance, plus $521 in utility payments, during September.
This funding, which comes from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, was approved by the local board this week.
Next month’s allotment is a slight decrease in rental assistance funding compared to $13,369 in August and an increase from August’s utility payment of $477.[[In-content Ad]]
