High school accident
Vehicles driven by a rural Redkey woman and a Dunkirk teenager collided on a drive at Jay County High School on Wednesday.
A 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Winona L. Westlake, 18, 9798 West Ind. 67, Redkey, and a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Zachary T. Dornberger, 16, 398 Lincoln Ave., collided at 3:30 p.m.
Westlake told Jay County police that she was approaching a line of traffic and her books slid off the seat. She reached down to grab the books and the Tahoe struck the rear of the Colorado.
Police estimated combined damage to the Tahoe, registered to Patty J. Boggs, same address as driver, and the Colorado, registered to Deborah J. Poti, same address as driver, at $1,000 to $2,500.
Unattended campfire
An unattended fire about 4 feet from a garage caught the garage on fire this morning, a firefighter said.
Portland firefighters were called to 936 W. Main St. today at 2:51 a.m. The first firefighters arrived at the scene at 2:54 a.m. Eleven firefighters responded with two trucks.
The fire was controlled at 3:10 a.m., and firefighters left the scene at 3:56 a.m.
The property is owned by Jack Wall. Jennifer Wall lives at the home there.[[In-content Ad]]
