Two homer for Jay

OSSIAN - The freshman had the power.
Danielle Wellman and Nikka Chaney each hit their first career home runs Thursday, leading an offensive onslaught by the Jay County High School softball team in a 19-4, six-inning victory over the host Norwell Knights.
The Patriots (4-3) trailed 3-0 after the first inning thanks to a home run by Norwell. But they scored seven times in the bottom of the second inning and rolled to the win.
Wellman went deep as part of a five-RBI effort. She had two hits and three runs in the wing.
Chaney hit a solo home run and scored twice.
Junior Pazia Speed finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, and Kendra Younger added two hits and three runs. Laura Castillo had three runs and two RBIs, Brittney Watson added two hits and two RBIs and Tiffany Davis also had a pair of hits.
Watson settled down after the first inning, allowing just a run in the third the rest of the way. She picked up the win, giving up six hits while striking out four batters.
Junior varsity
Jay County clobbered the Knights 15-5 in four innings led by the bats of Anneliese Jetmore and Paige Alsip.
Jetmore had a double, a triple and two runs in the victory, and Alsip was 2-for-3 with two runs. Randa Gillespie added two hits and two runs, and Abby Denney had a pair of doubles.
Whitni Somers earned the win, giving up five unearned runs on six hits and two walks. She struck out four batters.[[In-content Ad]]
