FORT WAYNE - Two more members of the Jay County Winter Swim Team picked up state qualifying times at the Northeast Divisional Championships this weekend at Fort Wayne Southside High School.

Mary Hudson and Cady Farlow each qualified for the Age Group State Championships with their winning times. Hudson won the 12-and-younger girls 50-yard butterfly in a career-best 30.24 seconds, and Farlow also posted a career-best time to take the top spot in the 10-and-younger girls 50 breaststroke in 40.46.

Farlow added career-bests in every event, adding top-10 efforts in three, while Hudson placed in the top 10 in two other events.

Sophie Bader was in the top 10 in five events, including a third-place swim in the 10-and-younger girls 200 individual medley. Others placing in the top 10 for Jay County were Eme Miller, Sam Miller, Michaela Long, Mitchel Kaverman and Aaron Hudson.

Jay splits with Tigers

BLUFFTON - The Jay County Middle School Swim Team battled Bluffton last week with the girls taking a 104-82 victory while the boys fell 116-70.

Laura Bowen led Jay County with a pair of wins, taking first place in the 100-yard individual medley in 1-minute, 24.11 seconds and the 400 freestyle at 6:06.01.

Marissa Murrell pulled out a tight win in the 50 freestyle, taking first place by just over a half-second at 39.11. Other swimming wins came from Jocie Mann with a time of 3:01.18 in the 200 freestyle, Lynne Inman at 1:33.58 in the 100 backstroke and Michaela Long in 1:33.07 in the 100 breaststroke. Megan Taylor placed first in diving.

Wiley Young took two of the three victories for the boys team in the 100 individual medley (1:25.99) and the 100 freestyle (1:17.95). Lucas Holcomb placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:33.40).

Four win trophies

HUNTINGTON - The Jay County Winter Swim Team competed at the Huntington/Wells Invitational in February with four swimmers bringing home runner-up trophies.

Ashley Mark (8-and-younger girls), Sok Vormohr (8-and-younger boys), Sophie Bader (9-10-year-old girls) and Aaron Hudson (15-and-older boys) all finished second in points in their respective age groups.

Other swimmers posting finishes in the top three in at least one event were Alex Bader, Anne Vormohr, Richard Osterholt, Mary Hudson, Rachel Osterholt, Mitchel Kaverman, Sidney Sprunger and Cady Farlow.[[In-content Ad]]
