Two Stars earn all-state honors (12/12/2008)

INDIANAPOLIS - Two South Adams High School football players were honored this week by the Indiana Football Coaches Association.

Chris Stutzman and Heath Moser each were honored as the IFCA announced its all-state teams Thursday.

Stutzman was a first-team honoree at wide receiver on the Class 1A senior all-state team. Moser was selected for the Class 1A junior all-state team as a defensive lineman.

EJMS wins two

BLUFFTON - East Jay Middle School's seventh grade girls basketball team turned in a dominant effort to defeat Bluffton 47-12 Thursday. The eighth graders also won, 45-31.

Abby Dunlavy and Kaitlin Petro each scored eight points for the seventh grade team (2-0), which was up 33-5 through the first three quarters. Kaitlin Hemmelgarn and Abigail Johnson added six points apiece.

Rachelle Jackson scored 12 points for the eighth graders (2-0), and Emily Devoe joined her in double figures with 11. Hannah Ainsworth and Gabi Cross each added eight points.

Kahlig leads Tribe

FORT RECOVERY - Elijah Kahlig scored as many points as the entire New Bremen Cardinal squad to lead the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team to a 55-19 victory Thursday. The eighth grade team lost, 28-26.

Kahlig racked up 19 points as the seventh grade Indians earned their first win. Bobby Mattraw added nine pointes.

Chad Schroer had 10 points for the Tribe eighth graders (0-2), who led by three at halftime but got outscored 13-6 in the third quarter to fall behind. Trent Kaiser scored six points.

Chiefs score split

After a slow opening quarter, the East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team owned the rest of the game for a 43-21 win Thursday over Bluffton. The seventh graders fell short of a comeback in a 38-36 defeat.

Brock McFarland had 19 points for East Jay's eighth graders, who trailed by three after the opening quarter but then outscored Bluffton 39-14 the rest of the way. Cade Price also reached double figures with 10 points.

The seventh grade Chiefs, led by Zane Shreve's 12 points, trailed by 11 at halftime and their second-half rally fell just short. Jacob Schlosser scored nine points, and Trey Teagle had eight.

Bremen tops FR

NEW BREMEN - Fort Recovery's middle school girls basketball teams each fell short Thursday. The eighth graders lost 27-17 to New Bremen, and the seventh grade team fell 45-17.

The eighth grade game was tied at the close of each of the first three periods, but New Bremen outscored the Tribe 13-3 in the fourth. Janelle Schwieterman and Kelsey Fiely each scored four points, and Amy Link added three for the Indians (1-1).

Jackie Fullenkamp finished with seven points for the seventh grade team (0-2). Sam Florence added four points.[[In-content Ad]]
