Two Tribe teams advance in MAC (02/16/04)


Two Indian basketball teams advanced in tournament play Saturday while one finished its season.

The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys team defeated Versailles 45-31, and the seventh grade girls team topped New Knoxville 33-19 in their respective Midwest Athletic Conference tournament games. The Fort Recovery eighth grade girls basketball team ended its year with a 55-40 loss to St. Johns in MAC tourney action.

The eighth grade boys team (11-4) rolled to victory behind a couple of players in double figures.

Clint Tobe finished with 15 points, and Bobby Rammel scored 12 points. Lucas Staugler was next for the Indians with eight points.

They will play Coldwater today at St. Henry at 6 p.m.

Joanna Snyder paced the seventh grade girls team in its victory with 14 points. Anne Koesters followed with nine points, and Kelsey Wuebker added four points.

Fort Recovery will play its next game against St. Johns Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

The Indian eighth grade girls allowed 20-plus points in the first and third quarters in their defeat. They trailed 23-8 after one period and were never able to get back in the game.

Val Fortkamp scored a team-high 15 points with Jill Pottkotter not far behind with 13.[[In-content Ad]]
