Tyson Foods Inc. announced it plans to repurchase 22.5 million shares of stock.
Tyson said due to the weakness of the stock price and the company’s current liquidity, it would accelerate plans to repurchase stock. The company plans to start this quarter, but will likely buy less than 25 percent of the target in this period.
Field office closing
A State Farm Insurance field office in Fort Wayne will close as the company reduces its amount of offices.
The 9921 Dupont Circle Drive office in Fort Wayne will close, relocated 32 employees. The company is also closing 10 offices in Illinois and seven in Michigan.
The company is reducing to two field offices in each state.
Red Gold cited
Red Gold, Alexandria, was cited by the Indiana Department of Labor for violations in forklift operations.
The DOL cited the company for carrying too much weight on its forklifts, although Red Gold is appealing the decision, stating that there has never been an accident due to the process.
The company has a facility in Geneva and warehouses in rural Portland.
Acquired
Allegheny Technologies Incorporated completed its acquisition of Ladish Co. Inc.
Ladish Shareholders received $24 in cash and .4556 shares of ATI stock per share of Ladish.
New plant
Saint-Gobain Sekurit, the third largest automotive glass producer in China, announced the construction of a new glass plant in Shandong province of Qingdao.
The plant will be an investment of 50 million euros and will be built in three phases through 2014. When completed, the plant will add capacity to equip 1.5 million vehicles per year.
Honor flight
Tyson Foods Inc., in combination with the Walmart Foundation and other groups, has sponsored an “Honor Flight,” which will take 90 World War II veterans from Arkansas to visit memorials in Washington D.C.
The veterans range in age from 85 to 94 and several guardians and some medical personnel will also attend the trip.
Tyson and the Walmart Foundation each donated $25,000 toward the $65,000 trip.
Fortune list
Raymond James Financial made the Fortune magazine listing of most admired companies.
The list included 350 firms spanning 32 countries and Raymond James was ranked fourth among the top securities industry firms.
