Unearned runs hurt Jay vs. Bearcats (04/11/06)

Jay County roundup

MUNCIE — Sophomore Josh Ludy helped his classmate with a home run. But that was all the assistance Michael Jobe received.

Jobe pitched well enough to get a victory, but a pair of unearned runs led to the Jay County baseball team’s 2-1 loss to the Muncie Central Bearcats Monday.

The Patriots trailed 1-0 before Ludy’s home run to lead off the fourth inning tied the contest. The score remained even until the seventh, when an error allowed the Bearcats’ Kevin Woodfin to come in with the winning run.

Jobe allowed 10 hits and four walks while striking out five in his first varsity start. Jay County finished with five hits — two by Thomas McCowan and one each from Ludy, Tony McCowan and John Retter.

Netters blanked again

RICHMOND — Richmond handed the Jay County girls tennis team its third straight shutout Monday.

The No. 2 doubles pair of Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp provided the closest match in the 5-0 defeat, falling 6-4, 6-2 to Claire Miller and Grace Clementi. At No. 1 doubles Megan Knittle and Jessica Muhlenkamp lost 6-1, 6-0 to Camill Burden and Sarah Habschmit.

In singles action it was Angie Stults falling 6-0, 6-0 to Megan Hollingsworth, Carissa Wilkins losing 6-1, 6-0 to Lindsay Manger and Megan Adams dropping by a 6-1, 6-0 count to Chantelle Van Der Meare.

The junior varsity team lost 6-0.
