Vagedes sets two records

FRHS roundup

ARCANUM, Ohio — Aaron Vagedes ran wild Tuesday to start a season he hopes will end in a state berth.
The Fort Recovery High School junior won a pair of events and broke two school records as the Indians competed at the Arcanum Invitational. He scored more than half of the points for the boys as the Tribe finished fifth out of eight teams with 55.5.
The FRHS girls, who were missing several key athletes, were fourth in the eight-team field with 89.5 points. Brookville won both the boys and girls competitions with 189.83 and 157.5 points respectively.
Vagedes, who fell just short of a state finals berth in the long jump last year, took first place with a record-breaking effort in the 200-meter dash, winning in 23.5 seconds. His other victory came in 11.8 in the 100 dash.
His second record came in a runner-up finish in the 400 dash with a time of 51.8, and he was also the runner-up in the long jump at 19 feet, 11 inches.
The previous school records were 23.7 in the 200 set by Greg Snyder in 2002, and 52.0 in the 400 set by Matt Roessner in 1998.
Marissa Brunswick, a senior, turned in the top individual effort for the girls team, finishing as the runner-up in the 300 hurdles in 52.4 seconds.
The Indians were without 2010 high jump state medalist Holly Brunswick, 2010 Midwest Athletic Conference shot put champion Kylie Kahlig and distance runner Abby Huelskamp because of their run to the girls basketball state finals.
