Variety of events set in August
Taking Note
The Davis Purdue Field Day will be held Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the Davis Purdue Ag Center located seven miles south of Redkey on Ind. 1.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and a program will follow at 8:30 a.m. led by Jeff Boyer and Gordon Jackson. Boyer and Jackson will explain their herbicied demonstration plots controlling winter annuals. Larry Bledsoe will follow with a program entitled Corn Rootworm Sampling and Decision Making.
Pesticide Safety and Handling will continue in the next hour with Fred Whitford and Ron Larew will round out the day with Pesticide Regulatory Issues.
Lunch is provided at no cost. Anyone wishing to receive PARP credit must pay a $10 fee.
ART SHOW
Perspectives III, an art show dedicated to displaying art of area senior citizens will take place from Tuesday, Aug. 19, to Friday, Aug. 22, and Monday, Aug. 25, to Friday, Aug. 29 at the Center for Vital Aging in the the Muncie Community Center for the Arts, 520 E. Main St., Muncie.
Show hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. from Aug. 19-22 and Aug. 25-29.

• Prehistoric Indiana — Saturday, Aug. 16, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. — BSU professor of archaeological resource management services Mitch Zoll and state geologist John Havens will conduct a field trip to the labratory at BSU to study prehistoric finds in this area and others and a trip to the Pipe Creek Sinkhole. Cost is $10 per person.
• Monarchs in the Classroom — Saturday, Aug. 16, 1-3 p.m. — This program will give teachers new hands-on ideas for use in the classroom dealing with Monarch butterflies. The program is open to all interested adults. Cost is $5 per person.
• Tip to Tail — Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2-3 p.m.; Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2-3 p.m. — A virtual field trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum to learn about a T-Rex named Sue and her cousin Wendy, a life-sized model of a Dromaeosaur covered in feathers. Cost is free with exhibit admission.
• Elephant Ancestors in Indiana — Thursday, Aug. 21, 7-8 p.m. — The family program will explore Indiana’s Ice Age. Cost is free with exhibit admission. Registration deadline is Aug. 14.
• Prehistoric Plants and Today’s Relatives — Saturday, Aug. 23, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. — Andy Force, head horticulturalist at the Foellinger-Frieman Botanical Conservatory, Fort Wayne, will discuss prehistoric plants and their living relatives at the gardens and greenhouses of the conservatory. Cost is $15 per person. Registration deadline is Aug. 15.
• Preschool Sue Program — Tuesday, Aug. 26, 10-11 a.m. — Preschoolers accompianied by an adult can learn about T-Rex Sue. Cost is free with exhibit admission.
• We’re Talking Old! — Thursday, Aug. 28, 7-8:30 p.m. — Gary Rosenburg, professor of geology at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, will discuss the natural wonders of the Falls of the Ohio in Clarksville. Cost is free.
