Verallia earns top quality rating

Verallia North America, which operates a plant at 524 E. Center St., Dunkirk, recently announced its Burlington, Wis., production facility received an ISO Food Safety Management Systems Certification.
The Wisconsin plant joins plants in North Carolina and Illinois in having the accreditation. The accreditation demonstrates that the glass container manufacturing facility can meet the market’s most stringent specifications for food safety, purity, and quality.
Chamber’s Trick-or-Treat night
The Jay County Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring a Trick-or-treat night in downtown Portland on Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m. All Portland and Jay County businesses are invited to attend. Businesses outside of the central business district will be allowed to set up in the parking lot at the Community Resource Center or in front of the building.
Businesses wishing o participate should reply to the Jay County Chamber of Commerce by Oct. 25. Cost to participate will be $20 per businesses to help pay for advertising and printed materials.
All those who participate are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes.
Yager hires
Yager Furniture, 117 W. Main St., Berne, recently announced the hiring of Lauren Knapke to the Yager design and sales staff. Knapke, who resides in Celina, Ohio, received an interior design degree with honors from Kendall School of Design, Grand Rapids, Mich.
Maurices holding coat drive
A Decatur branch of Maurices clothing store will be holding a coat drive to benefit local families.
Maurices, located in Village Green Shopping Center, 1017 S. 13th St., Decatur, will be collecting coats from Sunday until Oct. 20. Customers can drop off donations during store hours, which are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. and Sunday 12-5 p.m.
For each donation, donors will receive a coupon for 20 percent off any regular-priced Maurices item.
Tyson donation
Jackson State University, the National Urban League and Tyson Foods, Inc., donated a truckload of food to the Mississippi Food Network this week as part of an effort to feed people in need and promote public awareness of hunger in Mississippi.
The donation, which includes 32,000 pounds of protein, will be distributed by the Mississippi Food Network to many of its 415 affiliates statewide. The event is a continuation of a year-long pilot program announced in June that targets Mississippi because of its high rate of food insecurity. The grass-roots, community-based program, dubbed
The Urban League-Tyson Foods Hunger Project Mississippi, aims to alleviate hunger for more than 19,000 people in several Mississippi counties.
