Visiting Heritage earns two wins over Stars (05/10/05)

BERNE — The home field advantage didn’t work out for South Adams Monday night. The Starfire baseball and softball teams lost 7-3 and 7-4 respectively to the visiting Heritage Patriots.

South Adams’ baseball team rallied to tie its game twice, pulling even at 1-1 in the third inning and again at 3-3 as each team scored twice in the fourth. But, Heritage scored once in the fifth to take the lead and three times in the sixth to pull away.

Will Grandlinard suffered the defeat, allowing seven runs — five earned —in 52/3 innings. He gave up nine hits and two walks while striking out two.

Mike Farris was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Austin Givens had a double and a run, Craig Neuenschwander singled and scored a run and Kyle Alberson had an RBI.

The Starfire softball team (7-8, 4-5 Allen County Athletic Conference) grabbed a 2-1 lead thanks to a pair of second-inning runs. However, Heritage wrested control with five runs in the fifth inning and the teams each scored twice in the sixth for the final margin.

Amber Melick suffered the defeated as three of the seven runs against her were unearned. She gave up 12 hits and one walk.

Lacy Rhoades finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Alyssa Miller was also 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Kayla Coblentz went 2-for-2 with a triple.

Jay JV baseball beats Bluffton

BLUFFTON — The Jay County junior varsity baseball team scored at least once in each of the first six innings Monday night as it topped the Bluffton Tigers 13-4.

Tom McCowan paced the Patriots (10-5), who put up five runs in the third inning, with three hits. R. J. Fuller, Ryan Rogers, Josh Selvey and Aaron Bogenschutz added two hits apiece.

Kaleb Carpenter got the win as he allowed four runs on seven hits in seven innings. He struck out six batters and walked six.[[In-content Ad]]
