Cori Vormohr had another record-setting evening Tuesday as the Jay County Summer Swim Team blew Randolph County out of the water.

Jay County took the victory by 530 points, 756-226. It won 50 out of 60 individual events and 16 of 18 relays.

Vormohr led the effort, setting new team and pool records in the 11-12-year-old girls long freestyle. She broke the previous record, which was held by her coach and cousin Taylor Fullenkamp, by nearly a full second with time of 1:07.40.

She narrowly missed breaking Fullenkamp’s record as she won the breaststroke. She also won the backstroke, and missed the record held by coach Abby Arnold in that event by less than half a second.

Vormohr was joined by Lane Hull, Ashley Imel and Matt Peterson in winning three events on the evening.

Hull earned his three wins in the 8-and-under boys category. He took first in the long freestyle, individual medley and breaststroke.

Imel and Peterson dominated the 15-and-older division. Imel took the long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley for the girls, while Peterson took the boys long freestyle, shot freestyle and breaststroke.

There were also a host of two-event winners Tuesday, as Jay County had 29 different individual victors overall.

Winning two events each for the girls were Rachel Vogler, Alysha Miller, Emilee Miller, Ivy Simons, Brittany Teagle, Shelby Rines and Amber Kelly. Taking two events apiece for the boys were Zane Shreve, Lucas Holcomb, Sam Miller, Steven Kelly, Trey Dunn and Derrick Lee.

Swimmers with one victory on the night were Rylee Clemmons, Amelia Freeman, Radney Pearson, Mallory Poole, Mikaila Segraves, Spencer Grady, A.J. Pettyjohn, Neal Fennig, Michelle Landfair, Perry Hull, Caleb Culy and Ryan Sutton.

Jay County will swim against Union City Thursday at 6 p.m. Team pictures will be prior to the meet at 5:10 p.m.

The Portland Rockets won their fifth game in a row Tuesday, topping Shady Nook 12-4 to take control of first place in the Fort Wayne League.

The six-inning victory lifted Portland to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in league action.

Adam Childs and James Nowicki powered the Rockets’ offense in the victory.

Childs hit a home run, and finished with five RBIs. Nowicki hit a pair of homers, and Ryan Rammel also knocked one out of the park.

Phil Ernst earned the win, allowing four runs on eight hits as he went the distance. He finished with nine strikeouts.
