Vormohr is seeded fourth in shot put (05/24/06)
JCHS boys track
Senior Joseph Vormohr represents the Jay County boys track team’s best chance at a state berth. If he jumps his best, freshman Dexter Shreve would have a chance as well.
Vormohr is the Patriots’ top seed — fourth in the shot put — as they travel to Indianapolis North Central for the regional meet Thursday. The top three competitors in each event will move on to the state finals.
The sectional winning throw of 51 feet, 1 inch from Vormohr puts him just out of the top three in the regional field. His toss was just one inch shorter than that of No. 3 seed Zachary Lipscomb of Lawrence North.
Vormohr also qualified for the regional meet in the discus, where he is seeded seventh. He finished at 155 feet at the Muncie Central sectional, and the No. 3 seed is 159 feet, 9 inches.
Shreve is seeded 11th in the high jump and 15th in the long jump. However, he cleared only 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump at sectional as he battled an injury. His best jump of the season is 6 feet, three inches, which would be good for the No. 4 seed.
Justin Gilbert is the No. 12 seed in the 400-meter dash, and Denny Gardner and Mason Shreve are 14th and 15th respectively in the 110 hurdles.
The 4x400 relay team of Gilbert, Doug Murray, Alex Michael and Micah Enyart is 16th.[[In-content Ad]]
